I just watched Storytellers, and he does not let the finger sit down. Also, when you said keep the middle finger down, I thought you mean on the 4th fret, not to slide with it. Why would you let it slide, there is no purpose for anything, form or not, the finger there does nothing.

Oh, yeah, i thought you knew what i meant.. i'm not saying it serves a purpose, saying what dave does.. not trying to hassel you or anything rant, you're a helpful guy, just letting you know that dave usually leaves it down

I reread your post and saw you said does not let the finger sit down.. i justed watched story tellers and for 7xx7 he leaves his finger on xxx6

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": Do you use this word? Alcoves?

i've seen him do both, but what i almost always see him do is this-
if he's playing the 7xx7, and then plays the 5xx6, he'll keep his index and middle fingers on the 5xx6
a good example of that is the "oh my god" part of so damn lucky

why does it matter if he leaves it on the 6th fret or not? He doesn't even play that note anyway, everyone stop nitpicking and figure out what works best for you and still sounds good

well because the purpose of the thread was help with the nature intro, right? :)

i learned to play it by watching storytellers and leaving my middle finger down helped to reform the chord after sliding up, for me anyway. it was easier for my index to find the 2nd fret so all i had to do was slide back down. might help.

I just use my pinky and ring finger.

Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead

It would be more productive to simply figure out the correct way to play this rather than quabble about how Dave does it............just think about it

True dat, its not like dave is going to storm into your house rebuking you every time you don't play his songs exactly the way he does. Although that would be quite sweet in a certain light. If that were the case I'd play his songs wrong on purpose.
