It seems to me that if your playing someone elses song then there is actually a right and wrong way cause someone wrote it their certain way.
There is a right and wrong way to play dave songs, dave's way and all other ways. Now if you write you own song and want to mix it up then i well, you do what ever you want.
If someone calls you an ass cause you try and show them/tell them that there playing a song wrong, maybe they just don't understand what your trying to say.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Johnny Cash's cover of NIN Hurt was outstanding, I wouldn't say that he played it wrong, he just played it different.

.....and i don't know where i said anything about cover songs. what i was saying was that if someone is playing a dave song and they think they have it right but they don't, i can't see how they can consider you an ass just for stating that they are playing it incorrectly(not like dave plays it)

if someone were "covering" a song then they would have full right to play it differently, which was not at all close to what i was talking about.

Maybe you don't read very well or possibly have low comprehension about things you actually type so I'll help you out.

In your previous post you stated

When someone plays a cover song it is actually someone else's song. I thought this was common knowledge, however, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you have any problems reading or understanding any of this let me know and I'll type it out including the phonetic spelling of any word over two syllables.

I feel that music is up to interpretation that's all. It's art, there is no right or wrong way. However, you could say that's not how DAVE plays the song, but I wouldn't say YOU'RE not playing the song right.

I've been posting on nancies for a couple of years and I will say the enviorment over there has gotten toxic. So much flaming, and honestly, when DMB doesn't put out a new release there isn't much to talk about and the topics of posts get downright lame at times.

I basically mean am I an asshole for saying, Dave doesnt play it that way, he plays it this way. The kid played a few dave songs and they were all wrong, so I told him and hes like, they can be played many different ways, kind of gettin attitudy. I wasnt trying to be an ass to the kid but, hes not into dave like I am and I know what Im saying and he obviously didnt. So I guess I was just wondering if I should let people play or if its not a big deal if I point out their mistakes. when you make it your own you are branching out even further as a musician.

when you play the silly EZ-Guitar chords, unless you have no desire to get better, you're not really helping yourself out any.

This is true. Because if you play different than Dave, but to the point where it sounds close to Dave, you can't call it your own anyway IMO...It's just a lame version, that's all. People like Howie day and John Mayer do good covers of Dave. They make the song their own for the most part.

this happened to me the other day ....well i was on both ends of it
a local band was playing say goodbye and he played it with all bar chords...it pissed me off that because he could keep tone with his voice he could play out and i cant....but me and my buddy were jking about it cause he plays guitar too....
but the other side of it i was at a party and we were passing the gutar around and some kid that wasnt good newasy kept saying i was playing something wrong to everyone ...i dont even remember the song and i told everyone that cause someone asked for it.,...i dont even remember the song, so the kid plays satellte the wrong way and i start laughin cause he was trying to make an ass out of me...so i asked him what dave song he wants to here and hes like there so hard blah blah ..so i busted out two step ...mind u this prob one of the only songs i could play good when im ripped for some reason.....
