Good Beginner Guitar For Girls
So, my girlfriend plays guitar but she has some real pos beater garage sale kinda guitar. I wanna get her one some time during the next school year but I dont know what to get her. The price range stops around $300 or so. So far from what Ive found the Alvarez RF8 sounds like a good deal, you can get it around $250 I believe, I had her try one out at the local guitar store at school and she liked it, but shed probably like any guitar more than hers. It seemed like a good guitar for the price but I just thought Id ask you guys if you had any insight. So, the price range shouldnt exceed $300 and it should be a smaller body guitar, no dreadnoughts, cutaway and electronics also arent needed. Thanks for any info.

I know they get dissed a lot in here, but maybe an Ovation. I believe they're around $300.00-$350.00. A buddy of mines wife has one and she really likes it. It has a real skinny neck and close action. The neck is great for people with small hands. If not that than I think you're on the right track with an Alvarez. Decent quality for not a lot of money.

Very funny, not really a factor I think needs to be worried about, she thought the guitar felt very comfortable, I think a dreadnought is just to big of a body for a smaller person, a girl. I think the RF8 is a grand auditorium.GSRLessard14 wrote:i remember a while back this came up...and you have to account for boob room.

fender makes some good acoustics. they might be a little bit more than 300, but you can haggle the guy down. i have a dg-14s and i love it. very good guitar. http://www.fender.com/products/show.php ... ughtmodels

Id never buy a Fender acoustic, sorry, I have a Fender electric and that they do well, but acoustics, just not that good imo. The Alvarez sounds like the best bet, sorry for shooting down your opinion since I did ask for help, but Ive already ruled those out.Duffman wrote:fender makes some good acoustics. they might be a little bit more than 300, but you can haggle the guy down. i have a dg-14s and i love it. very good guitar. http://www.fender.com/products/show.php ... ughtmodels

She kinda knew how to play before we met. I taught her some stuff, weve been together for almost four months and took guitar 1 together at school. I teach her some stuff when were together and I know what youre thinking, but its not like that, most of the time. She gets frustrated sometimes but its no big deal. She can play allright but doesnt practice much because she hates her guitar. So as far as the whole dont try to teach your gf thing, were past that, its not a problem.Trippin Hillbilly wrote:Are you going to try and teach her? cause I hear that's a bad idea..

The parlor seems like its a Baby Taylor type of guitar, I want to get her a normal "adult" sized guitar, just a smaller body, like a Auditorium or GA. Id also like to buy a new guitar as opposed to used but if I could get my hands on one in a guitar shop and try it out that could deffinatley be an option. Thanks.hcole wrote:The Alvarez sounds like a good bet, you might look for a used Larrivee Parlor or a used L-01. They don't make the L-01 anymore but a used one would definately be in your price range, a new one might even be close.

Anyway.. the yamaha apx series have pretty small bodies and they sound pretty good. Not sure if you'll be able to get one for $300 though.
My second guitar was a APX9C, theyre nice.
