hm.
I dont really want to sound harsh, but it might be necessary. The strumming pattern is off. Listen to a solo or D&T performance, you'll see.
The singing...well, it was very bad. (sorry) I'm not much of a singer myself, but it seems to me like you just decided to sing in whatever key you wanted to at that moment. I don't think you were able to find the right key at any point during the song.
Don't let this post bring you down. Keep playing, and you'll improve in no time. I suggest singing along with the song, that should help you figure it out.

Hey,
I kind of thought the rhythm was a nice switch-up, I mean the chord changes still come at the right time so it was a nice change of pace. the vocals were off, but not so off that it's incurable. do you use a guitar tuner? if you dont, google for a program called AP Tuner. it's freeware, and it shows you exactly what notes you're playing (or singing) which for me has been a HUGE help in practicing singing. Keep on truckin man, you're on the right track it just needs some work. Keep posting dude.

thanks guys. i don't mind harsh criticism. i know i have a long long way to go as i'm just starting.
however, i did change up the strumming pattern on purpose. i wanted to do my own version - i was getting bored doing it the usual way. i wanted to change up the singing too, but didn't really know where to go with it, so i'm probably all over the place.
keep it coming...i can take it!

yeah i see. forget what i said about the strumming pattern. It fits perfectly, but I though maybe you were having trouble finding the one Dave uses. Don't worry about it.

I'm not sure how you recorded this. If its all at once, then the vocal-guitar timing seems a little off here and there, like you're chasing after lines so you don't miss them; practice makes perfect I guess. Playing along while you sing is always tough for some songs. There was some song that dave doesn't do live because he can't really sing and play too well for it. It was in the DM vs. JM topic somewhere on the board. Anyway, it's tough, and takes time.
Vocally, there were a lot of parts that sounded somewhat monotone. I recognized your voice because I remember sounding like that once... you get a little stuck in the head voice, but it's comfortable so you stick with it, but just doesn't sound too good. If I'm wrong, maybe just work on your vocal flexability.
Good job though, just keep up the practicing, all the time. I still do medleys sometimes of DMB songs just to make sure I still remember them, just to keep them in my head you know. Practice, practice, practice... and if you're shy or nervous about your voice, wait till you're all alone and just let it go, get into the song and see whre your voice takes you. You might be surprised what you can do. Keep posting...

thanks!
i did play and sing at the same time. and i did have trouble with remembering the lyrics (i noticed later how i messed up the "well, who am i?...enlightenment" part). haven't been listening to dmb much lately.
as for the monotone singing, i was hoping someone would have some advice on correcting that. if i let go i'm afraid my voice will start cracking badly. ah well...

I don't know if that problem is a little out of my league of advice. All I can think of is that every expert choir boy, at one time or another, has to realize that his voice is fucked up for a little while. Maybe you're in that space where it's going to take some time to find your voice again. Someone else got any ideas, help me out... Good luck...
