My Guitar

Unread post by jsgksu » Tue Mar 18, 2003 6:34 pm

All right, so my uncle gave me this acoustic guitar two Christmas' ago and until the other day I didnt know much about it, except that he got it for $50 and 2,500 Marlboro Miles. I always thought it sounded real good and my uncle even compared it to his Martin. The other day I was looking around the net for some reviews on it and I went to Harmony Central and found these reviews if you care to look. http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/D ... ht-01.html
Anways I found out it has a spruce top and rosewood back, sides, frets and bridge, it is also glossed on the front, back and sides. I dont know that anyone really cares but I am just amazed at the quality of this guitar. Anyone ever played one or know anything about this guitar Id like to hear from you. Also, is there any kind of improvements I can make to the guitar that anyone could suggest. I was thinking of replacing the tuners with some Grovers and maybe getting a new saddle made of tusq or ivory to replace the one on there now. Any suggestions, thanks.

They dont actually make guitars, they just offered it as a product in their 1999 maybe 2000 Marlboro catalog. Also they dont carry it anymore because they change products offered in their catalog every year. I assume they had it made by an outside company as most of the products they offer arent made by them. It actually does sound real good and I like it because it looks like a Martin and it doesnt have marlboro written on it anywhere or anything. I might borrow my friends digital camera and put the picture up on a website whenever I actually get around to making one up, Ill also be recording some shit soon so youll be able to hear the quality of it in a few weeks probably.

So can anyone tell me if there is any point to replacing parts on my guitar? Would replacing the tuners, saddle, etc. make it sound any better or anything? Im really uneducated on this subject, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I really don't know how replacing stuff would make it sound... but I got a Washburn D-10S and I think it sound pretty good :) Especially for the 149.99 I paid for it!

replacing tuners with heavier tuners will give you more sustain (the length of time a note can be held for before fading out). this is the theory behind the "Fat Boy" big peice of metal that some guitar shops sell and it just attaches to the headstock. more mass on the headstock gives more sustain.

using a bone saddle and/or nut can add volume since it is more dense than plastic and transfers the energy of the string to the wood body of the guitar much better. it's my opinion that the bone saddle also gave the tone a more bell shape. kinda filled it out. but i can't prove this and there is no research on this.

hope that answers some questions.
