when you slide up to the 7's keep you index finger extended out. You don't have to worry about you your middle finger on the 4th fret immediatly since you are fretting on 6th fret. Get you middle finger in position while you are strumming the first part. hope that helped w/o confusing u too bad :D

when I slide, I lift my index and middle, why would you keep them down? Dave lifts his fingers as well.

I kept my middle down at first, too. It doesn't matter since you're fretting that string at the 7th, anyway. I think it's a pretty good idea until you get a little more coordination in your digits.[/quote]

I leave them extended out and off the strings so they are in perfect position to go into that stretch

keep your middle down when you slide? my hand wants to split in two! Unless you have ungodly long hands, it's not possible.

I just tried that strech, omg, my finger went in immense pain trying it.

Dave does this:

Code: Select all

Fingers
E:--------------------------------
B:--------------------------------
G:--4----2----4----2--------4/4---
D:--1----1----2----1--------------
A:--------------------------------
E:--3----3----3----3--------3/3---

Frets
E:--------------------------------
B:--------------------------------
G:--6----4----6----4--------6/7---
D:--2----2----2----2--------x-----
A:--x----x----x----x--------x-----
E:--5----5----5----5--------5/7---

here you keep the 3 here you lift all
fingers down but your ring and
                         pinky, which you
                         slide with.
watch Story Tellers, you can see it clearly.

there's enough intro's to dave's songs (and outros) that you could have a whole website just for those.

you just need to practice the form so when you go back down to the 5 with your ring finger, you can just throw on your middle and pointer. just like how you can throw on a basic E chord or something. you've played it so much, the form just comes naturally. i think the same form is used for cry freedom, so go learn/practice that song, and the nature intro will come easily.

why in gods name would he do that? you must be watching a different guitarist, because its only natural for you pointer and middle to lift up. try it again, you'll see what i mean.
