I think chets sound like shit. And its important to note that even if you put in a fishman, you will not get anywhere close to Dave's sound. Along with the internals, Dave's signal was tweaked 120 different ways from Sunday. I would definitely recommend a $1500 acoustic electric over a chet. Light years ahead in terms of sound quality. They are the most overrated guitars available for purchase, in my opinion.

I guess I could see how you might do that for playability's sake, but sound quality? Wow.Beauford33 wrote:I choose my chet over my HD 28v, or any of my guitar for that matter. Its my favorite guitar. plus I got a Patrick Roy sig in there so it means a lot to me.

mbgreen, I personaly think they sound great. Like I said, I played a Gibson through an acoustic amp at Good & Loud Music, and it sounded like a real acoustic, and if I had the money to throw around, I would have bought it. I think it really does stand up and sounds like an acoustic going through an acoustic amp.

Im not saying its a complete turd, but I think the money would be better spent on something else. The sound just doesnt resonate the same way in my ears. I have heard them through decent amps. Dave's sounded great...it was his signature sound. But the others I have heard were lacking in comparison.

Micheal, you can get a very similar sound out of a basic chet through a electric amp. That is what I do. I got the "perfect" treble/bass ratio and it does sound similar. plus, it is MY guitar. its my speacial boy. my first real big guitar. soon after I got some great guitars, but none share the love I have for my chet. I realize, when I play, that my other guitars do, in fact, kick the living shit out of my chet. I just love my chet so damn much lol. its MY guitar. plus the Patrick Roy sig makes it extra extra speacial.

If a new Chet costs around 1,500 then you are in the range of the Turner renaissance line which are IMO head and shoulders above the Chet.

Well, for the epi, they aren't bad, but not great, nothing to invest in. But not bad. I would say buy the epi for now, to get the guitar now, then save up money, and trade the guitar in with the savings for a Gibson. So, you like the guitar, and you are able to play it, and eventualy get the great sound.
