my first live performance

a friend of mine isnt going to be able to play and im substituting for him... he plays rhythm (and hes really good at strumming...) so thats going to take some work. people have seen me play but ive never played with a band. i learned all the songs were playing in a couple hours today. its getting me nervous. ive never played in front of like 60 people before.. somewhat nerve wrecking. its almost like i have to lead the band too, which might be a little weird. we have practice tomorrow night, and hopefully ill do well then so that it builds my confidence a bit. its not really hard stuff, just basic chords, but theres a lot of parts to the songs. kinda scary...

cool man that should be a great opportunity for you. When are you guys performing? I'm not in a band myself so i don't have any words of wisdom but i'm jealous! I wish ANY of my friends played instruments. But you know just picture the audience naked bla bla and good luck!

nothin most people know about. its easy stuff but it might be hard.. theres a drummer, bongos, me and another guitarist, bassist, and the chick whose singing. hopefully she'll lead the band, but in the band rhythm guitar dominates over lead.. i might have to choose how many times to play a certain part of the song and situate everything. somewhat stressful.

Hey don't sweat it man. Listen, guitar is one of those magical toys that can cover itself up. When your playing with a band you can decide how much of it you want to show. If at a point you get nervous and think your doing badly, play a little softer, and get back into the groove. I've played many a drunken night of music and pulled it off beautifully. Trust me, everyone is thier own worst critic. The people who are out in the crowd won't notice you until you want them to. Just have fun. I'm telling you, after your first time, you'll want to do it every night.

Peace!!

Thats rough man. Do you mean at the place you were gonna perform or practice at. If your debut gets canceled that sucks a lot. Oh well, theres always next time.

Hey man, just look at this as a blessing in disquise. Sure it sucks. But you said that you didn't have it down yet, right? So work on it, play for some people that you know, and practice in front of a mirror. It will all go to help your stage presence. Then when you jump up on stage you will be that more prepared. Hey who knows, there might be some bar owners/managers in the crowd. A good first impression goes a long way.

Peace!!
