Remembering Robert Nesta Marley

Unread post by c_tietze » Tue May 11, 2004 10:09 am

Don't forget one of Dave's biggest musical and social influences:

Roberet Nesta Marley ~ February 6, 1945 - May 11, 1981

Me say war.
That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
Me say war.

- WAR
~ And rain washed away all her tears and I smiled done away was the sum of all my fears ~

(smoking pot and listening to "three little birds")

"every little thing, is gonna be all right....."

Thats right mon.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Sinead did butcher "War" - and her career as well. She sand this on SNL and ripped up a photo of the Pope as a "protest" against child abuse.

Rrrrrright.

There is something to be said about the legacy that Bob Marley has left behind. Prophet, Social Thinker, Social Doer, Social Protester. The list goes on about how many great things he was. War is a great song, Africa Unit, Natural Mystic, Buffalo Soldier. What kills me, though, is how some people who listen and speak of Bob are the first to jump on the war is ok bandwagon and be the first to speak out against someone because they are different than you. I think, in this time of war, it is great to remember Bob and remember that while we are at war, we should be trying to celebrate the world as one place and those of the earth as all being brothers and sisters of one human race - and shove aside the politics, the ideologies, the beliefs and ideas of others that are different and not use derogatory words to express your beliefs about others that are different due to race, creed, ideology etc. That is what Bob is about I believe. Stop with the bull and celebrate life of all, not of one that is like you in who you are.

Me say war.
That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens in anyones mind
Until the colour of a man's skin to all
is no more significance than the colour of his eyes -
Until the basic human rights are guaranteed to all
Without Regard to Race
Until all are respected despite their differences
Me Say War.

I added a few things in. In this time, let's strive to be good and love one another. Some people don't get it, but let's not get caught up in the fact that all people of one area feel the same as some few.

Is not war state sponsored terrorism? I think this day and age Bob is spinning in his grave.

People get together and love one another. One Love.

It's a testament to who he was as a person in life that the mention of his name brings about thoughts of peace and good times. I second the moment of silence.

This isn't my quote but it has been said that:

"Everywhere in the world, whenever Bob Marley's name is mentioned, it is a symbol of Freedom"

Native Americans believe that for something to be born a life must be lost, thus keeping balance with respect to all living things.
