Okay, advice coming from an effects junkie.

I had a multi-effects pedal once, a DigiTech RP-12. My advice if you want one, is buy it, find out what you like and what you don't, sell it, then buy stompboxes for the effects you want.

Most multi-effects pedals are average all around. No aspect really stands out above the others. They're usually hard to figure out. The one I had was next to impossible to figure out. Also, they're nearly impossible to change mid-show. Usually it involves going into menus, punching buttons galore... stompboxes involve turning a knob here and there and bingo--new sound locked in.

As far as delays go, I *highly* recommend the DD-5. Seriously. That thing is a little piece of heaven. It does everything you need it to, and then some. As far as overlapping delays goes, I'm not sure about that. But it has a hold mode, lets you record one thing as a background figure, then play over that. Stream, as was mentioned, is a good example of this--both the harmonic figure he plays at the end, and a part repeated during the 'Cocaine Fury'. You can only get a couple things being repeated, but any more than that and it starts to muddy up.

So, in conclusion: MFX are, in my opinion, good for figuring out what you want. Buying an MFX for a delay is pointless, buy a delay instead. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. Make sure you can work the thing before you plop down a load of money on it. And check the user reviews at harmony central before you buy anything--it's usually a wise idea.

Anything else you need, advice on pedals, etc. let me know.

Yeah... DD5 is pretty sweet... but if your looking into doing longer loops with mulitple loops at the same time.... Its all about the AKAI headrush...
