dmb tracks without dave's guitar

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

dmb tracks without dave's guitar

is there a way to take the guitar part out of a track, so one could practice with it? and i know you could if you did a multitrack recording, but probably not if you just made it one file like on finished cds, right?

If you mean using a standard audio track like from a CD, then, not really. If you use something like Cool Edit Pro you can try & isolate the guitar and minimize it, but I don't believe you could elliminate it. It'd be easier if you were to use a high-quality recording of something like a Dave solo performance or maybe L@LC. With more instruments in the recording, it's obviously going to be much harder to filter.

Good luck to ya.

If you spend enough time in cool edit, you could almost completely take the guitar out. It would probably take awhile though, and there might be some holes in the result.

There are also some songs from early albums where, thanks to lillywhite's "turn david down and timmy up" policy, you can barely hear daves part or not at all and that makes for great practice.
Here are a few examples
41/crash
Crush/btcs
Let You Down/crash
Rapunzel/btcs
Too Much/crash
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

You can hear it. I think it is in the left earphone. He is playing somthing completely different then what he usually plays. Plus, I think he is using a electric guitar.

no, Timmy is in the right. He is the most noticable. Dave is playing quitely in the left and I believe he is usuing a electric. Unless they would have Timmy play twice on a song...which is pointless

Not really, a lot of producers layer like that, and it's better than just copying and pasting the already played track. It's pretty common. Recent example is 311's Still Dreaming from Evolver.

okay, but next time you listen to that with some headphones, take the right completely out. All you hear is Dave, Carter, and Stefan. Not sure if you hear boyd or roi. seriously. They did not double track timmy, and they are dumbass if they did.

But dave always says he never played electric before everyday, yet so many of the songs on crash in particular have the main part played by an electric. The crash versions of Proudest Monkey, DIDO, Two Step, Too Much, 41, Say Goodbye, Tripping Billies, and Cry Freedom all have their main parts (the part normally played by dave) played with an electric. If there even is an acoustic, I sure can't hear it.
I know dave doubled his parts with tim on UTTAD, but usually that was with two acoustics.

That's because Tim probably recorded those..
I'm pretty sure the same goes for UTTAD, Rhyme and Reason is a pretty good indication of it.
Reason being, i've never heard Dave use vibrato on some of the notes in the verse and you can CLEARLY hear it on the album.

So yeah i'd say Timmy played Dave's parts on Crash too.
