miss hits on jimi

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I wish I had a logical explaination for this, but for me, I just don't hit it. Some people mute it with a free finger that isn't being used. But after a while I just noticed that I don't even hit it. Plus if I do notice myself hitting it, I watch my strumming hand and just make sure that it doesn't do what I don't want it to, like hit the E string. That's the only thing I can come up with right now, hope it helps :-)

Practice Practice Practice
The solution to every problem.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Well, if you practice enough, you will have control of your hand more, and you just don't hit the string when you don't want it.

That's what I was going to say. Never had a problem not hitting the E.

does anybody else hit the open E along with the 9h11 on the A string and then let the A ring on the 9h11 on the D string? i think it sounds just fine if your gentle with your strum

That's how I play it...doesn't Dave play it that way as well?

With a lot of practice, you can become more adept at your picking control and you won't even need to mute it, you just don't strike it.

This song looks like inspiration for So Damn Lucky, which at first was tough for me, but it's similar to Jimi except for the fact that if you learn the first main riff the rest of the song is easy cheesy.

i know for sure i use my thumb to mute the E string while playing so damn lucky. not sure about jimi thing, i'll have to go play it. but try using your thumb to mute the E while playing the 9h11 on the d and let the A ring.

Yeah I think he does both. I think it sounds fine and sometimes better if you hit the E and A...especially when playing solo.
