MY new ants marching cover..god this is hard!
this one is definitely no where near perfect...so PLEASE critique me every which way possible, except for my bad picking during the main riff...i kno that needs work already ... so yeah just help me out please... tell me what you think, and like i said, it's not perfect...i kno i messed up a bunch on guitar, but i think it's a good first attempt, and not too bad for just a year playing

First off, to the 65+ people who have viewed this thread but not one person other than ModestMouse could give a review, what's up with that?
A little feedback is all we look for in this forum, right? I still don't understand why the view/review ratio is always so off when it comes to peoples posted covers
In any event, Nancies.......I thought it was a nice showing.
Your singing is good, sounds in key to me. The guitar was cruising along pretty good until the "...all the little ants are marching...." part. I thought the guitar was off there. Something about the rhythm and chords just didn't seem right,
yet, they sounded better towards the end of the song where the same progression shows up again. With a little more polishing this could be an excellent song for you. Also, the very end seemed to have a twist different than the actual song.....was that on purpose? I only listened once (earlier this morning) and I could be wrong, but I thought that's what I heard. Overall, though, a nice job.

it sounded ok...it's just gonna take some getting used to playing that riff...it took me a while before I could play it like Dave. so just practice...listen to luther college strumming on the "all the little ants" part and play a long, making sure you make every strum like dave's...down strums/up strums...
this song I have found I one of the more difficult songs to sing, so dont feel discouraged as you did a good job on that...practice like a mofo...which is what I'm doin!!!

Well, there were a few note issues with the guitar.......rhythm was pretty good over all though.......and now the voice.........I think you have a beautiful upper range........it sounds like you hit the high notes without even thinking about it......it could use some strenthening but I liked it overall. With a little more spit and polish it'll shine. nice work

I viewed this thread, but didn't, and probably won't, listen to the song. It's nothing against him; I was just bored and checking out this particular forum.IronMike778 wrote:First off, to the 65+ people who have viewed this thread but not one person other than ModestMouse could give a review, what's up with that?A little feedback is all we look for in this forum, right? guitar sounds golden for the most part, the all the little ants part only sounds slightly off. the voice sounds money, your high notes are butter, it doesn't sound like you have trouble with those at all. my only comment would be that i know, for me anyway, when i'm playing a song, i get caught up with the guitar and i don't pay as much attention to the vocals, and they tend to get a little sloppy as the song progresses, so just make sure to pay as much attention to what you're singing at all times.

I like it
Voice is definitely in key, another good point of the song. Some notes you hit are a little shaky, of course you know that. My best advice is, always keep your lungs full of air. Especially around 2:21, it is obviously going to be hard to keep a lung full, but otherwise...if you learn to breathe correctly, you got it in the bag. It will surely make those transitions from low to high and high to low better. Keep it up man, I love it.

I know I'm pretty late but I just joined the forum today. For only playing a year or so I think that's really good. I've been playing for a couple years but I've only recently been trying to play that song. My problem is the muting. I can't figure it out really. Palm muting just hasn't clicked with me yet.. whenver I try I totally deaden the strings and screw up my rythym I have going.
But yea, that's an awesome cover as far as I'm concerned... what's even better is being able to sing to that song. I have troubles singing with songs and playing too.
