the thing about jimi

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

jimi thing will just hit you one day, when you get enough "funk-soul" in your system. just wait patiently

or practice and watch the listener supported dvd.

but it just hit me

Start very slowly and then speed it up.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

try holding down more strings than just the one string on the 9 on the A string. try holding down 9 on the A D and G. and mute all the others. it'll give it a much fuller sound.
and add a LOT of muting. its imperative for that song

Okay, here's how to do it.

1. sit down with your guitar.
2. think I think I can, I think I can.
3. shut your eyes.
4. and play it

It's stupid, but it's worked a couple of times for me.

Otherwise, try the above.

Think like Jimi Hendrix...it didn't work for me, but you never know, we are all different.

yeah man, just think like snyder said. jimi thing is an awesome song to know. and once you get past the intro the song becomes "best of whats around" in a sense. it took me about 6.5 months to get this song down strait. d+t will show you the way. good luck. practice.

there's a video of it on videotabs.net along with a different version of the tab. that version helped me out a lot, although I think kanter's tab is more accurate.

To learn ANY song, especially Dave, you gotta go r e a l l y slow.

Try playing the song which basically is that main riff slowly without tempo, don't try to play it like Dave just yet.

Listen to the song, try a D&T version and really listen to it hard. Notice the bluesy nature of the song. Without actually showing you in person all I can say is get a video if you can and go slowly, build speed after you can play the notes without using the tablature.

Good luck, DON'T EVER GIVE UP!

I've got the intro down pretty well, but I can't play it exactly like Dave does. I simplify the hammers and the muting so it flows a little more, less rhythmic. The rest of it is damn hard though @_<

It's a lot of fun when you can get the Listener Supported Jimi jam down. I could play that all day long. :)

What a true statement. I never could seem to get the "Dave sound" out of this song. But I worked on it and eventually the "funk" came. But is was like chosta said...one day it just came....like a lightswitch came on.

Just keep at it.

Practice young Padawan. If you go very slowly and listen to the recording on low in the background this song will come to you. Eventually songs DO click and you just get 'em.

Keep playing.
