Amps..
I've got some other line 6 products and I like 'em alot. 've heard good things about the spider. You can check out sound samples of it at line 6.com It seems to be a really versatile amp. I played the spider 1 series a couple years ago and thought it was pretty cool. Let me know if you have specific questions.

Go for the Spider, no question. A lot of people play through Marshalls just because they're loud, but they're not really my cup of tea. I guess it really depends on what you plan on playing. I know that line 6 amps are probably the most versatile amps you can buy. A lot of really cool sounds that are extremely similar to the amps they imitate. You could probably find a good Marshall imitation in the Spider amp settings anyway.

line 6 amps can sound good, but they dont have any presence. i love my marshall. id actually recommend saving up for a tube amp if you can.

As mentioned above, it depends on the style of music you are playing. I would agree about saving up for an all tube amp if you can, they are warmer.
Personally, I am lucky enought to own a Mesa Boogie Calibre 50+. I have had it 10 years now and it is just excellent for the music I play. I have only once had to turn up to 10, in a marque. The sound was just awesome. Forget all the simulations, this was the real thing.
