Newb Question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Do most of you use a pick when playing Dave songs? Just wondering since I'm new to this whole guitar thing.

If you look on the main site when you look up tabs on how to play his songs, you'll see that JKanter has it where he tells you what Dave does for each song, whether it be pick, finger-picking, thumb, etc... And I do what each song states on the main site. But I would suggest doing whatever you think is more you're style as of right now just beginning, if you find it easier to not use a pick, don't. Just my two cents :-)

if you want to play as accurately as possible dave uses a pick for almost every song he plays.

I think he uses a pick for almost all songs except:

grace is gone
where are you going
pay for what you get
everyday (fingerpicked on occasion)
christmas song

i'm sure there are few more (i don't know about the some devil cd)...i just can't think of them right now.

He used a pick for WAYG in Central Park if my eyes weren't deceiving me.

He plays those songs with picks sometimes and other times with out them..

There's probably a few more, I haven't watched my DM+F DVD's in awhile but I know those two are fingerpicked

ive always played seek up, long black veil and cry freedom with a pick... i should try fingerpicking them, i'll bet long black veil would sound nice
