Anyone else praying DMB will use LillyWhite on next album?
Their first three albums, in my opinion, were definitely the best. We all know that "Everyday" was a brief departure but "Busted Stuff" to me was nowhere near the sound and production of the first three. I just hope they go back to their roots and use LillyWhite on their new stuff.

I don't want lillywhite at all. You could hardly hear dave's guitar when he produced because he would turn it way down. Its true dave recorded some of his best songs with lillywhite, but all of them are much better live.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Thank god they are going without a producer next time.
When I saw Dave being interviewed on Charlie Rose about three years ago, Dave talked about the new producer on "Everyday."
He described the producer's advice (I'm assuming Glen Ballard) to leave the long jams for their concerts and just record songs like on Everyday.
Well that's all well and good, but if I'm lucky, I'd get to see Dave once per year. That means one day a year I get to hear stuff like on Crash. The rest of the time it's 4 min MTV songs.
That would be like asking Stevie Ray Vaughn to not play so many solos.
That's what makes Dave Matthews Band who they are ... What in the hell is he doing moving them away from that? So what they don't have 5 songs that can be on MTV?
In short, I'm thrilled they're trying something else again.

With their live performances being so much better than their studio stuff, i think their next album should be all live. New songs taken from live perfomances. That's my vote. I'll have to call Dave and tell him... hehe.
A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice.

I think the lillywhite albums were best simply because of the songs. Other than that, like sond wise the others are good. I think the new album will be good, I heard they were doin studio writing, which means jamming (YEAH BUDDY!) and stuff like that. I also think they wont turn down instruments, just for turning down sakes. If dave is soloing, dave will be up, if boyd is messin around, he'll be up.

To clairify, dave doesn't solo.. and the only time they studio wrote, everyday was made.. so if i were them, i'd rather just write their stuff on the road like they used to.. but this album is focused around carter.. so yeah, it's gonna fucking kickfilmdude100cms wrote:I think the lillywhite albums were best simply because of the songs. they said that the songs they are going to do will be entirely written in the studio, not stuff they played live or anything. Don't expect any JTR on it or Sweet Up And Down because they have already been played. The songs we will never have heard, I bet, and aren't going to grow off of jams live, or little riffs or something he would goof with live.
I am exceited for the album, since the band is so excited. Dave even says he misses the guys on the dave and friends tour.
Also, they may use lillywhite again, but don't expect it anytime soon at all.
Then Everyday was experimental, and it created great studio songs, but 50% don't work out as great live.
Also about only seeing one live show, I only see one concert of them a year. What you do is get taper ones. If you want to hear the jams live, they are all recorded, and you can get your hands on them pretty easily now a days.
So, I am pumped for a completely new feeling, new sounding, and new songs (well, I am hoping that MacHead will show up, since it hasn't been played live and was written in the studio, but that is a very unlikely thing)
