carpal tunnel

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Good point. At my work, they have posters all over showing you different "ergonomic" stretches to do daily to avoid injury. Yes, you can get injured from typing, sitting in a chair wrong, monitor at a wierd angle or too close and playing the guitar a lot with out stretching.

I'll try to find some images of those posters, I know we have them some where out on our network.
i thought it was in his strumming hand, not his left hand, maybe not
I believe it's both..

There was a lawsuit recently in the news about a man, Steve Bosell from Corona California who was suing Hustler magazine because he claimed their product gave him carpal tunnel.

That kinda creeps me out, although I don't play that much, no more than two hours per day. Anyone know of any ergonomic stretchs that might be useful?

I have a small case of it, but nothing to server. But I play golf, the gutiar, and type on a regular basis, so I'll get some of those symptoms, and I get tendonytis(sp) in my left hand, and when I get both at the same time, which happens about once a year, I can't play guitar, can't play golf, and is a bitch to type on a computer. So the last few years I've tried to make myself do some stretches before I play golf or the guitar, and it's worked so far :-) But I wouldn't hate to have it all the time, I feel bad for those of you hate it on a regular basis.

I got it once. It was the weirdest thing. I could actually feel the tendon moving in my wrist. If any of you think you may have it, you prolly don't. Cause it hurts like hell. It took about 3 weeks of doing nothing with my right hand (hold the jokes) for it the swelling to go down. I think a part of it is the way you play. because when you only move your wrist and not your whole forearm you apply alot more strain on those tendons. I used to play about 4 hours a day when i got it. i don't get to as much anymore so i haven't gotten it again... yet.

You don't just get it once... you probably pulled a tendon in your hand/wrist

Yeah, hes got it, and it is from playing guitar from what i hear. We all will prolly have to deal with it at some point. I think i have it right now, stiff finger joints, soar hand muscles and the like. His is really bad tho, he gets like pinched nerves from it. Hes like had to have allot of surgeries to surpress it.

I read in this book, that once at a dave and tim concert, one of his nerves pinched and his wrist started bleeding, he finished the show (typical dave).
