"Unreleased" Songs

Unread post by unccharlotte07 » Wed Apr 21, 2004 1:52 am

Ok, over the years I keep stumbling across "unreleased" songs that have actually been released, just not on DMB albums, such as Help Myself (Scream 2 Soundtrack), Waste (Phish Tribute?), Love Of My Life (Santana's album), Sing Along (Blue Man Group album), etc. Does anyone know if there are others? Also I have downloaded a few songs that were definitely recorded in a studio but were not released, such as Spotlight and After Her. Does anyone know about anymore like these?

Hmm, I don't know about studio recordings of these songs, but if you can get your hands on "Dream I Killed God" or "Toy Soldier" you might dig 'em. Also, if you get a chance to DL a full version of #40, then do it. All good songs IMO.

I guess maybe I should tell my reasoning behind asking this question. I'm creating my own CD of all CD-quality songs (and a few good sounding live ones that I've found) played by DMB or Dave or Dave guest appearing in the song, etc. that haven't been released on DMB albums (studio or live). Here's the list that I have so far:

Spotlight (definitely a studio version, not sure where it's from)
Waste
Help Myself
After Her (also sounds very studio-like, might be soundcheck)
Love Of My Life
JTR
Joyful Girl
Light Lift Me Up (also sounds studio-like, might be a soundcheck)
Sweet Up And Down
In My Life (John Lennon tribute concert)
Monkey Man
Angel From Montgomery
Sing Along
Ain't It Funny How Time Slips Away
#40 (full version, Yoshi's I think)

Are there any others that anyone may be able to think of?

Help Myself and JTR have both been on live albums.

Eh, if you're including those don't forget Granny.

I figured this would come up so I should have gone ahead and taken care of it. I'm using the studio versions of them, which haven't been released on DMB albums. There isn't a studio version of Granny (that I'm aware of).

And Joyful Girl is a song that came up recently in the forums that I just found out about too. It's on a Soulive album, and Dave is just singing the song. It's a pretty cool song.

After Her is from an old demo tape. Light Lift Me Up is from a soundcheck. Where is your Ain't It Funny from?

Here are some more to consider:
Angelique Kidjo and Dave Matthews - Iwoya
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Dave Matthews - Trouble and Strife
Chris Whitley and Dave Matthews - Radar (dave is just singing some backup on that one)
Johnny Cash and Dave Matthews - For You (from the We Were Soldiers soundtrack)
Shannon Worrell and Dave Matthews - Eleanor
Rolling Stones and Dave Matthews - Memory Motel and Wild Horses (both from a European tour)
Dave Matthews - Stuck on You (elvis tribute)

Eleanor is a song by Shannon Worrell, not Shawn Colvin as many Kazaa users have incorrectly labeled:

She is a Virginia musician that I believe is good friends with Dave's sister, Jane.

Wouldn't be amazed if she were dave's friend as well.. because she's from Charlottesville, VA, so i'd presume dave's whole family is friends with her

Sweet, thanks man. Ain't It Funny is from the Willie Nelson and Friends thing that came on TV like a year ago or something. That For You song would be good if it weren't for Johnny Cash singing in it  . He's a terrible singer. But thanks for the rest of those, I'll look into them.
