Acoustic Sound?
I was wondering how to get an acoustic sound out of an acoustic/electric guitar? For example when I plug in my guitar to my mixer or computer it always sounds alittle electric, it doesn't have the authentic acoustic sound.
I was looking on DMB's Road page at their audio equipment and it says that Dave's acoustic guitars are plugged into XLR input, what is XLR?
Thanks,
Tim

A good acoustic DI box/preamp I think would do the trick. I like the SansAmp Acoustic DI:TheDreamingTree wrote:I was wondering how to get an acoustic sound out of an acoustic/electric guitar? XLR is a type of cabling connector. I'm sure you know what it is, you just didn't know it was called XLR - it's the cables with the 3-pronged connectors that are often used in microphones. XLR's tend to yield a better-quality signal than 1/4" cables (the standard guitar cable), and are thus preferred to 1/4" cables. The SansAmp Acoustic DI above will take the 1/4" input from your guitar, allow you to manipulate the sound to get a much more 'acoustic' tone, and has an XLR output to plugin into an amp or a mixer.TheDreamingTree wrote:I was looking on DMB's Road page at their audio equipment and it says that Dave's acoustic guitars are plugged into XLR input, what is XLR?
This subject is often discussed on http://www.acousticguitar.com in the forum. Look under Gear and do a search. It really seams to be the holy grail of guitar playing, how to get a real acoustic sound when playing live or recording. There are guys on that forum who have been trying for years and have spent thousands and still aren't happy
Have you tried using a good quality mic to record with?

You need a really good pickup or a really, really good mic to amplify and keep the acoustic integrity.
This is a concern of many guitar players, of course if I was that good, I TOO would worry about keeping it real.
Peace,
CJT
