I liked them all but I voted for dmbguitars' cover cause it just seemed to flow really nicely.
The rhythm is outstanding and the second track had alot of originality in it.

The jam and harmonics towards the end are sweet.
Good stuff.

I really wish more people like him would reply with feedback and explanations of why they voted the way they did. :(

I wouldn't know, I only have the first. Honest to God though, I tabbed out the fills myself.

why wouldn't go with your own styles and make up fills?

Because people keep telling me how much they enjoy my "Timmy fills". I had previously tabbed out the L@LC solo, so I figured I might as well use it. As for the other little fills during the verse, I used the same ones you used, and stuff that I made up as I was playing. The solo at the end was improvised after listening to CP.

i guess i can understand that. but what i dont get is why people tab certain solos. to me, it just shows a lack of creativity. dont take this the wrong way ritz, i loved your cover, but i think instead of using the L@LC solo or a "central park" outro, you should have gone with your own style. you've definately go the talent to do it. :)

I don’t see how tabbing a solo shows lack of creativity. That’s like saying jkanter lacks creativity because he tabs out all of Dave’s songs. I did it for the same reason anybody tabs something. I wanted to play along with the album.

I really appreciate the kind words, man. I really do. But, I kind of thought the "central park" outra was my own thing. I've never seen anybody cover that jam part before, and the solo was made up on the spot as I was playing. Any more of "my own thing" and I would of had to rewrite the song.

I understand where you're coming from on the central park outro, more because you used it as a basis, really.

I don't want to step on your toes Ritz but tabbing stuff out note for note is the polar oppisite of creativity. Writing you own jam section wouldn't be all that hard either. I really did enjoy the covers a lot. The musicianship was top notch but I will say without hesitation that the creativity was lacking.

I respect the direction that Kanter took with this site but I must say it doesn't encourage creativity. IMO a good cover should have enough of a spin on it that it's not instantly recognizable.

Hey Everyone!

Im so glad the contest is going well so far. If you didnt read my post in the original contest forum... I am going to start a contest every other week ( 1 week for submission , 1 week of voting). This one was just a test to see how it went. I think minarets will be the next song but will have more information for you guys later in the week. Give me feedback before Cover Contest #2!!

I never said tabbing something out note for note was creative. I said tabbing something out note for note doesn't mean you lack creativity. And doesn't writing your own jam kind of defeat the purpose of the "Jimi Thing Cover Contest"?

I say nay to minarets. I think we should try a song that is seldom covered to promote creativity. Maybe Pig or Dreaming Tree?

Is minarets frequently covered? i've never heard a cover of it.
have there been covers on it here. IMO it is a seldom covered song.
but i think to be fair we should put it to a vote. i dont' want to do a frequently done song either, but i thought that by suggesting minarets i was suggesting a song that allowed for a lot of creativity

Im gonna say i like Ritz the best.. see im my opinion (i may get bashed for this).. I don't like the singing.. Dave's guitar and his voice meld perfectly. I love listening to the instrumentals and thats it.. But im probably one of the only people who believes this.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).
