Jena is the female singer featured in "Mouthful of Cavities." She has a clear, high-pitched voice, an excellent companion to Shannon's scratchy crooning. According to what Christopher says in the "Letters From a Porcupine" video, she just kept showing up at their concerts saying that she could sing, and when they finally listened to her they were so impressed that they asked her to appear on the album.

Post-Melon information on Jena has been hard to come by, but she has continued to work as a singer/songwriter, at one point opening shows for the band Cracker. She also sings backup on the song "Hopelessly, Relentlessly" by Eric Bazilia. Jena has an album recorded, produced by Bazalia, which has not been released yet, having apparently been rejected by her record company. According to this article, from spring of 97, Christopher Thorn produced an album for her.
