Hello, you all may have over looked...
i didn't really check the forums, i just read the site, and i noticed that it never said a thing about how often Dave uses the hole "1,3,5". You know what i'm talkin bout, its big in blues, but rock just stole the 1 and the 3. The 'Police' use it alot too. so does Satriani. well, i just thought it was pretty obvious and thought it might help some people understand if they could correlate some of Daves playing with that Formula. ( especially with songs like 'Satellite').
it sounds interesting.... could you explain a bit more? hole 1,3,5 versus hole 1,3? I know the blues I and the IV, V but that is something completly different... or is it?
is it a circle of 5th thing?
is it a circle of 5th thing?

If I remember correctly.....Message in a Bottle is played using the same kind of 1-3-5 thing we're talking about here. Clearly that song came first and I'm not implying Police copied Dave(ha)....am I right on that song?Ani_DiFranco wrote:i didn't really check the forums, i just read the site, and i noticed that it never said a thing about how often Dave uses the hole "1,3,5". This is a cord used in a Sartriani song. basically, he bars the 5th and hits 9th and 7th w/ wring and pinky (it'sa long reach for kids, but pausible)
I can't remember exactly how it was dirived, but i know that this is where most powercords come from. Rock guitarists pulled the 5th off the 1,3 5 to make songsm w/ cords like

the 1 4 5 thing is totally different, that a more vague blues formula. i love it. its amazing veristile. you can do ANYTHING!! with it, as shown by the glorious JERRY GARCIA!!!! i'm think i have heard of the circle of the 5th but i am drawing a blank.. could you please refresh me?
