I like the music to most of it. The lyrics are not that great. I like the opener a lot. Gaucho and Sweet are nice. Belly Full is good. Way better than BW and SU. Some of the riffs sound like old DMB.

If Only just might be the most boring song we've ever heard.

The last three tracks are good.

The last half of Drunken Soldier has parts that remind me strongly of Dark Side of the Moon.

Okay after about 5 listens this album is completely forgettable. Nothing grabs me, nothing makes me want to listen to it again.

I'll give it another try when the lossless version comes out and you can hear the layers more clearly, but I don't expect to listen ever again after that, sadly

Tim and Rashawn have done a pretty good job of making this band unlistenable to me

Get rid of the screeching trumpet/saxophone runs and Zeppelin rip-off overdrive and I think this band could make interesting music again

That is exactly the problem. It's not just that Dave isn't writing as well as he used to, it's that this band doesn't even sound like it used to. Tim and Rashawn fucking suck. All the electric guitar solos and trumpet bullshit they add to the songs would have been spots for the saxophone or violin in the past. It was the blending together of those two instruments with Dave's guitar parts that made this band special and now they sound like some type of weird hybrid KISS/Earth, Wind and Fire cover band.

Belly Belly sounds like a bad prince song being covered by Dave.

I'm surprised at the how this album has gone over here compared to other online communities (Ants, TDC, Ebasement, ect.)

The reception from a lot of a people has been surprisingly positive. Only downside to the album going over poorly here is I doubt we get very many tabs from the album. Personally I like the album. I think The Riff, Belly Full, Snow Outside, and Drunken Soldier are the best songs they've written in a while. I'm just glad this wasn't Big Whiskey Part 2. From a studio perspective the songs are layered in that classic Lillywhite style that I've missed.

Obviously this band will never get back to making records at a Big 3 level, but I'm ok if Away From the World is a new starting point going forward.

I feel like this place takes a more realistic approach than the sites you mentioned. Those sites have a lot of fans who will like anything this band does, so it makes sense that they'd really like something that isn't completely shitty.

This place also has a stagnant community of members, most of whom have had their OMGZ DAVE!!!! phase, gotten older, and realized that there's a lot better music being made out there than post-2000 DMB. The other sites have new members of people that are just getting into the band. We mock and discourage new members like it's our job.
