Oh man... I've been cursed by John Mayer

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I've heard you, and you sound almost exactly the same as Mayer...it's definitely a compliment...a lot of chicks will want to do you...anyway, dude, you're lucky...I've heard people comparing other's voices to Weird Al...that would make you want to quit.

Thanks man. Hopefully at some point even though people might say "He sounds just like Mayer" they will also say "but he writes totally different"
No offense to Mayer, I believe he is talented but I also believe my writing style is pretty different.

I also wrote my own one man show (well, my friend colin came in at the last minute as the nurse of the day taking me to group therapy). It was a independant study, and I wanted do my won play. It's very depressing, and takes place almost all inside this man's mind.

Here is what it is like.

It starts with the lights going up, the man (who is me) sits on the stool, with a note book and a pen. behind him are 3 metal walls that act as a room looking like this \__/ (the best way you can show a metal room with no windows or doors. It is meant to be his mind. These voices start to talk, erie, and pretty much putting down the man, and judging him. The man tries to talk, but looses the words to say anything. Eventualy, these voices talk about something horrible that he did, that made him such a stupid and horrible man. Eventualy, the man starts to write, and says what he is writing. He is writing to his wife, you find out. Telling how much he loved her, and how he misses her, and just can't stand to what happened. The voices start again later, and do the same, this time the man fights back even more, stronger. Gets up for a little bit, paces with the notebook. Then, after that, the man sits back down, depressed. He starts a new page. He is now seeming like he is writing a letter to his daughter. Again, talking about experiences, and how he misses her, and how sorry he is. The voices attack again, and he starts to get more violent with him. Making excuses, giving reasons, and how he couldn't choose. The man, starts to go a little crazy, and paces more mumbling. The voices act again, he tried to ignore them, and fights back again. Again, he gets depressed and sits down. He starts to think, and in the last argument of the voices ,you find he is an ER doctor, and that his wife and daughter are gone or dead. He then gets up and ponders life and meaning (and I slip in a little of the two be or not to be speech from hamlet). Then, something happens, it isn't the voices talking. There were noises, beepings, and comotion. The man looks out to the dark, and starts to realize what is going on. Their is his voice talking to a nurse who just brought in two people, who got in a car crash, and both are on the edge of death or life. He then finds out that the two . . . are his wife and daughter. The man is the only doctor, and he could only work on one, and he couldn't choose. He can't, he breaks down, and you hear two flat lines. While this is happening, the man on stage is running around, banging his head on the wall, all saying, "no, not again, no!!!!!!! not now!!!! I couldn't choose!!!!! stop!!!!! no!!!!!" Then as the flat lines hit, he screams, "NO!!!!!!!!!" and he runs to the wals and throws them down with all his force, the lights go, and a big BANG happens. Then, the lights come back up, and the man is sitting on a couch, the walls are gone, and his note book is in the middle of the floor. Then, from the side, (my friend colin) the nurse comes in. he wakes up the man, who is shocked, and looks up confused and lost for the words and where he is. The nurse says, "time for group therapy today dr". I then ask about the grape juice, and how I love it, an that's all I focus on. The nurse takes the man off to the side, and music swells (it's david gray's wulitzer off of Lost Songs, which works so well with the scene), and then the lights start to dim, and stops. The nurse comes out, picks up the notebook. He reads a little, and then looks off, in sadness. He closes it, and walks back off the stage, and the music swells and ends, and when it ends, lights dimmed to black.

the end

man, that took a while. Oh yeah, I performed it last day of school senior year, and it was the last one on that stage, since a new one was being built.

I got an A+, and made my drama teacher, who was the teacher for my independant study, that she would have casted me in more roles in her plays that she never gave me a chance to do anything really, and friends also wondered why other people who got the parts I tried out for got any chance at all for them. I always got snubbed. Made me pissed every try out. But, I showed her in the end that I could do more than they could. She loved the play and the idea, and the acting, so did my parents and friends.

phew, too much writing.
That sounds interesting. Anything else to rival JB?

You should add pretentious and arrogant to your list.

Great one. I used the more subtle way to be an ass. I like the directness.

I'm blunt every now and again when the situation calls for it.

I'm usually blunt, but sometimes I go subtle. Depends on the mood.

I wasn't being callous for the sake of it. I have always really liked JB and Tenacious D. If you don't think he's funny then you just don't get it. Not to mention the fact that they don't take their music seriously and yet it's still an extremely well crafted rock album.

I think they're great. I don't like that the kid says he has better range than JB. Then why's he working in a grocery store in WI, why isn't he making School of Rock. Which was fantastic. I don't know.

Sorry for the attempted hi-jack.

I listened to your cover and I'm not convinced that you sound "exactly" like Mayer. I think the similarity is in the breathiness. You should really be aware of this as it not only sounds bad but it's not good for your voice.
If your serious you should look into getting vocal lessons as this can be fixed. It will also help in develping a voice that's more your own. I think with some better technique your voice would be great and probably better than Mayers.

He was awesome in School of Rock. The part where he's showing everyone how to play Smoke on the Water is brilliant.
