In the market for a new 12 String
In the market for a new 12 String
I am going to buy a new 12 string in a few months and was curious what your guy's opinions are. I know a lot more about 6 strings than 12 and wondered if there was any particular way to go. I am thinking a grand will probably be my max so I am not expecting something amazing but I figure I can something pretty decent for that. Any thoughts?
I think people think that maybe theres more chance I'll play if they sound mad and I'm like you guys are just pretending, I know why you go to the gym its for the steam room big boy, come in here with that '41' stuff, I see through that tiger DM 3-19
I saw a Taylor here for like $1100 on sale. I don't know what model or anything, but I htought that was a good deal. Plus my college roommate's dad works at a music store and can get me a pretty good deal. I mean its not set at $1000 max, I would be willing to go a couple hundred over. I am just beginning the process so I am just looking to see what's out there. That Taylor caught my eye, does Martin make 12 strings?

well... to answer your question, Taylor guitars are known for having very good 12 strings, I have only played one martin 12 before and I didn't think it was as nice as the Taylor's I have tried out, but it still was pretty nice. I think the Taylor's have a nicer, fuller sound. The Martins are usually more bassy, but also have quite a full soundschubox wrote:I saw a Taylor here for like $1100 on sale. I had a Taylor 355 (paid $750) for while and if was great, no intonation or tuning problems at all and it sounded pretty damn good. The low end wasn't quite as full as I would have liked but the sustain and the clarity of the highs was quite nice. If there is one thing I've heard it's that Taylor makes the best 12-string. If you can't afford it than save up because a less expensive one will give you nothing but headaches.
I am thinking I will go with a Taylor. I think I can find one around my price range. And my friend is getting married in his hometown at the end of July, I should have the money by then so I can go to his Dad's store and try them out

Taylor 12 strings are nice, but the really good ones are at the high end of the price range. I've seen a lot of Takamine 12 string, GOOD Takamines, going for just over $1000. So I would suggest a 300 or 300 series Taylor 12 string, or look into a Takamine 12 string. That my $0.02

I checked some of the lower end taylors out 300s and 400s, and they are over 2 grand, I guess I will have to look for some of last year's models and hope I can find a good deal

Ummmm thats got to be retail or something. Like I said in my post, which apparently wasn't read, you can pick up a 355 for around $800 used but in excellent condition.schubox wrote:I checked some of the lower end taylors out 300s and 400s, and they are over 2 grand, I guess I will have to look for some of last year's models and hope I can find a good deal
Well that was the official Taylor price guide for the new models. I am sure I will be able to find one for cheaper. Is there a huge difference in the 300 and 44 series concerning 12 strings? I don't wanna get cheap, but if the difference is small and I can save myself a few hundred bucks, I'm all for it.MWR wrote:Ummmm thats got to be retail or something.
