new song...

Unread post by juineaux » Thu Mar 18, 2004 12:26 am

I finnaly got my computer to record me(evil machine), and...
My friend convinced my to try out this website where people are given a song title and you take a week to write a song about that title.
My song isnt too good, but it was a good songwriting exercise. Tell me what you think:

This is pretty sweet. I wouldn't even know where to begin writing something like this. The guitar is great... especially that intro lick! Vocals are strong and fitting for the mood of the song. The recording is also very solid (I think I can hear breathing in the mic at the beginning of the song... you may want to move away from the vocal mic before the first verse starts).

In summary, you have a great style... I enjoyed the post.

QUESTION: What tuning is this played in?

We should conduct a similar songwriting exercise here on DMBtabs (post a phrase... then everyone has a week to record something.) The exercise surely would be useful for me.

thanks, elguitarrista-
I play this song in openC minor with the capo on the sixth fret.

I think we should definatley do one of these songwriting exercises/contests on DMBtabs, I think It would spice things up in the recording section. As long as we get some more people

well we could probably give people a title, subject, or a genre/style. If anyone has any ideas lets start one for next week

sounds like a good idea, but are you supposed to write the music in the given time too? Like you can't put lyrics to some riffs/chords you have been messing with? Cuz thats the impression I am getting. I think that would be cool, all original within the given time

yea, write the song in that amount of time or something youve been messing with(as long as its not a complete song), and some people did instrumentals(which is cool for people that dont sing). So do you guys wanna go by titles or a subject?
tell me some ideas for titles/subjects if you wanna do that

That was a sweet song man...has a good feel to it. I like the faint beat in the backround, don't know if you did that on purpose or not, but it's sweet.

bah! great job as always. i need a folder for all your stuff, tom. ;) and yeah, the contest thing would be great, but i think it'd be better to call 'em excercises. just a great way to flex some creative juices. i think subjects would be too broad, but titles would be better, and the more abstract the better, i think.

in terms of genre/style i think most of us will do something acoustic. lol.

if we do get one started, probably start on Monday in the morning, either tom, me, or someone else could make the thread and all throughout the week get submissions, answer questions, whatever, then ask that all submissions be in by like, 9:00PM CST on Sunday. the original thread could be edited with all the links formatted nice and slick. don't know if we should have voting, because it's mostly for fun and it'd be great just to hear everyone's interpretation.

we could probably have a thread where we vote on titles, though.

as for titles:
Hundred Moons
Mourning Sun
Child Like Despair
Pandora Euphoria (hehe)
Breathe Two Winds
Against Notion
Glassy Fields
Wake the Signs
Yellow in the Door

That was a sick job juineaux, this one is definitely a keeper on my HD, I'm definitely listening to it again. And again. And again :D.

As for the rest of you, the idea of that contest sounds pretty sick. I'd be in for it, we should start a new thread about it rather than hijack juineaux's.

Great!! you have some good titles. You can start a thread for one of those, or I can. Mabey people can choose between 2 titles. I personally like mourning sun, glassy fields, and hundred moons. :D

yeah isaac, exercizes sounds like a better name for this. I think this should be more of a fun thing to do, than a competition
