Leroi's sax making beeping noises.

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Leroi's sax making beeping noises.

Unread post by Davy28 » Tue Mar 16, 2004 12:33 am

Anyone notice during live recordings the creepy beeping noise lerois sax makes? It only happens during solo jams when he is really going crazy. I first noticed them on LIOG/red rocks during the middle of the jam, and thought they were timmy doing some weird guitar effect. I heard them again during lerois groovy jimi thing/LS jam when he really gets into going up and down the scales. I heard it again on this recording of this jam I never caught the name of on DMB central. Any ideas as to what they are?

it happens to sax players all the time, its when they run out of breath and can't blow with enough force to make a clear note, so a weird honking sound is made

You could be right, but I play in my schools wind ensemble and sax squeeks do not sound like what I am talking about. The beeps I'm wondering about sound more like a recording glitch or something. I'll have to send a sound clip at some point, but listen very carefully during roi's solo jam during LIOG/redrocks. The beeps are all the same pitch and sound like the beeps a bus or truck makes when it backs up, although they are in no regular pattern.

I know the beeps you're talking about. I also play saxophone, and I see no way of a saxophone producing such electric/mechanical type beeps.

They're probably some mixing glitch with the sax.

I play sax, and it may be possible to produce that sound on the sax, but I doubt it.

Thats why I think it is a mixing glitch.

He's hitting some key that's completely different then the rest and just tapping it with his finger. My sister plays and that is what she says. Who the hell knows.

Saxes don't have spit valves. We have to suck out the spit through our mouthpieces.
