What is the capo sweet spot?

Unread post by Pickles » Wed Mar 17, 2004 9:57 pm

Where do you put your kyser capo so that it doesnt go that sharp nor does it deaden the tone? it doesnt make mine go too sharp now, but id like to cut it down to almost none if possible. ill probably be buying a shubb soon, in which case the kyser will be replaced and used as my foot capo.

proper positioning of a capo is key (heh heh) in playing with one. one of the first things you should learn about guitar playing is that a note varies within a fret. It is EXACTLY in pitch closest to the fret on the bridge side if your guitar's intonation is set properly. Thus, when using a capo position it as close to the bridge side fret as possible to ensure proper tuning. Although pitches vary by cents it generally sounds better to be dead on...any more questions feel free to ask

i put my capo on and checked the notes in an electric tuner. kyser capos (and strap capos) apply so much pressure to the neck that it makes the notes go sharp. check it out sometime. (ie capo on 5th fret makes it be sharper than A, but not as sharp as A#)

I like shubb capos because you can adjust the pressure. Plus they aren't big and ugly.

whenever use a capo, i just retune my guitar :) i have an onboard tuner so that makes it really easy to do but it might be a problem don't have one. in a live setting i'll usually have enough time between songs but i only really make a point to do it during the softer songs where the guitar is the dominant instrument.

i GREATLY prefer this over using a shubb though. :)

I use the Bird of Paridise... it's a quick release capo, doesn't make my notes sharp or dull.. then of course i have a raised b guitar, so i don't use it for much other tunings then that
