Grace is Gone - Baritone Style
Hey everyone... this is my first recording post. I got an acoustic baritone guitar about four weeks ago. I just had a Fishman Natural 1 put in and the action corrected (it was low and buzzing... the joy of internet shopping) so I'm pretty excited. The baritone is tuned B-B, and for this recording I put a capo on the first fret, so it's 4 half-steps lower than standard tuning.

this is really well done
sounds like you almost get too deep with your voice at a couple points
the guitar is solid all the way through
besides maybe two spots in the vocals, they were great most of the song
nice work, thanks for the post

Hi everyone... thanks for the replies. Is my guitar out of tune in the recording? I don't have a natural ear for that sort of thing (I can tell if it's grossly out of tune... but very subtle out-of-tuning is harder). I had tuned-up with an electric tuner about an hour before I recorded that.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I just wanted to add that my reasoning for using a baritone was to get the song into a range that I could sing. To sing a song like this in it's original key is too high for me... I would be 'reaching' for most notes. I've tried singing lots of Dave songs (and other popular tunes) in their original keys, and it's just difficult.
I'm excited about the idea of transposing songs into a range that better suits my voice, and the thing I like about the baritone guitar is that I can play the song the same way. So, my goal is to work with this instrument in the near future to write some songs and learn and sing some covers.
I just started voice lessons this week also. I think that by practicing singing under some guided instruction, it will help me stay in key and deliver the notes that I have in my mind (sometimes the notes don't project as you intend).
Also, I wanted to give a summary of my recording setup. I have a laptop and was looking for ways to get a signal into my computer... specifically, I wanted to get a guitar line and a vocal line in. The solution I found was the M-Audio Mobile-Pre. It's a two-channel pre-amp that plugs into the laptop through the USB port. I bought mine on newegg.com for $110, though I noticed it's no longer for sale on that site (It sells for much more - $149 at retailers like Guitar Center... so the internet seems to be a good channel to shop for this device). I plug both my guitar and Shure SM58 vocal mic into this unit, and that's how I get my signals into the computer. I use Cool Edit Pro as my recording software. The cool aspect of this simple set-up is that the two channels (guitar and vocals) record simultaneously as two separate tracks in Cool Edit. Therefore, you modify the levels and apply effects to each (idenpendently) after you record. On this recording, I have a slight chorus on the guitar, and slight reverb on the vocals.
Thanks for the posts.

Still good playing and pretty good singing, not trying to rag on anyone.

I took a listen and it's not out of tune.. i think you're just not used to that range in that song..udied405 wrote:DMBFan63 wrote:I don't think you realize it's played on a baritone buddyudied405 wrote:the playing is good but for the love of god; please tune it b4 u record.yes i know it's baritone, it's still out of tune.
