Jimi Thang
I could not find a video for JimiThing, does anyone know if there is one on the boards anywhere?
My question is about the main riff, is it just me or is it diffucult? I can not get it right, it sounds horrable, I gave it a while and no better, so if anybody gas any advice like how do you count it or whatever that got them past the hump I would be greatful, Thanks.

Well, how long have you been playing? and How long have you been trying this song?
It's not easy to get this song down, I know it took me a few months before I was able to play the main riff right, but I had just started playing. Some things come easy to some, and hard to others. You'll get it though.

jimi thing is exactly that, a jimi thing 8)
i didn't get this song down perfectly until i watched dave play it on listener supported. There is just a vibe, a groove to it. For me anyway, like i can't play satellite without singing along. Jimi thing just lays itself out when you play it. Watch dave play it and it will help you out a lot.

just started playing this riff too. i can get the groove, altho not exactly as dave plays it.
the biggest problem is i can't get the bar on the ninth fret to sound good. just sounds half muted.
is this what you're having trouble with, or the rhythm? if so, anyone have any suggestions?

oh i see what you mean. the beginning riff. you just have to get in the groove so to speak. the first time i played it i was like what the hell am i doing? usually, i have to go through the whole riff at least once to get the rhythm right. also try singing the riff to yourself a few times and it'll come to you.
gl!
and duffman, are you saying it'd sound okay to play the single notes? i tried it a little and it just didn't sound right. i guess it kinda lacks the percussive sound that way also. but i'll give it a try.

J4Tonight...my initial problem with this song was that i barred the 7th fret on both the E and D strings and just picked the individual notes...once i started moving my fingers to hit each note the whole song got the "groove" so to speak. lemme know if this helps or not...im not sure what ur doing wrong during the intro....but thats what i was doin wrong for awhile

I've been fooling around with this alot lately...the problem I have is playing it with a pick. When I strum it with my thumb is sounds great...almost perfect. When I use a pick, it sounds like a train wreck.
But that goes for all my playing. I've been going pick-less more and more to avoid disturbing my roommates...but when they're gone and I use the pick, I'm amazed at how bad it sounds. Using my thumb is just so forgiving. Fools me into thinking I'm improving.

I will try it now without the bar, cause I do bar those two also, hopefully that will work. I will give a good hour at least. Thanks again.searly wrote:J4Tonight...my initial problem with this song was that i barred the 7th fret on both the E and D strings and just picked the individual notes...once i started moving my fingers to hit each note the whole song got the "groove" so to speak. lemme know if this helps or not...im not sure what ur doing wrong during the intro....but thats what i was doin wrong for awhile
