New Sound Inc Recording - Louie's Hot Pants
I would love to hear some feedback on this. We've been playing this song for a while and it was taped at a show last week. I think the mix is pretty good. The tune is called Louie's Hot Pants, and its up for download here: http://ghost-planet.warped.com/sound/louies.mp3
My band's website is located here: http://www.soundinc.net. I play the keys.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Don't hold back, I can take some abuse

Hmm. 14 views but no reply. Am I to assume that this isn't anyone's cup of tea?

BigSpeen is right, try some of the other people's music on here, some people have some good stuff. But i listened to your stuff anyways, heres what I think:BigSpeen3436 wrote:and people usually just listen to songs of people who critique others a lot
You guys are pretty good musicians, and I kinda like the style(i imagine alot of people wont, weird instrumental stuff dosnt always go over well). I used to be in a "jam Band" and we had a similar sound(less funky though), but It was probably the funnest band ive been in. You guys sound like MMW, but with a more funky bass player. I like that you change time sygs. and tempos, but alot of times its pretty un-natural sounding and throws off the groove, your'e just changing the time syg. because you can.....

Overall I think you sound good, but the drummer could do a little more, and I think the bass player could slap a little less, you(keyboards) are playing really good and solid. Try adding another instrument/player to the mix-

pretty shitty recording quality, but thats understandable considering its live, and excusable because the song is good
i definitely liked the meter changes throughout the songs. changing the tone on the keys during the middle of the song was a nice touch. in this song sinko, your solos sounded much like herbie hancock
the only thing i would criticize would be the lack of melody during the 6/8 sections. the triplets on the bassline served as a good backbone, but there just wasn't an interesting melody during that part.

nice groove, the reference to MMW is right on.... my first thought was, wow, i cant even hear the guitar player... then i realized he doesnt exist, lol. Fatjack was right about the 6/8 section too, those parts left me waiting to see what the next change was gonna be- other than that its a good song, i enjoyed listening to it. I would definitely suggest expanding and adding another instrument to the mix, it seems like 3 instruments have to work a lot to make a full sound and it almost seems busy at times because youre trying so hard to get that layered sound, despite only having 3 instruments...
nice work man, cant wait to see what comes up next

To all of you who said we should add another instrument - we are! We actually have been considering it for a long time and decided after playing with a trumpet player. We've also jammed with a DJ a few times and are thinking about adding him on a few songs.
As you might have guessed, the bassline on this song came first and the melody came last. Melody is definatly something I have to work on.
As for the changing of time signatures, we decided that too many of our songs were in 4 when we wrote this (all of them were, actually) so we decided to make a song with as many changes as possible. After a few unsuccessful arrangements we refined it down to the one you're hearing now. The song was never really meant to have a flow between different time signatures - at the time we were really just trying to write the craziest song possible, and as we sort of sanded it down to what it is today that feel stuck.
Thanks a lot for your comments, they're really insightful.
