I wanna make mp3s and wmas!
What's the best way to get vocals and the Taylor onto the computer for not too many duckets? What do I need to buy? Thanks.

Well from one recording newby to another: First get a audio recording program like CoolEdit Pro which a lot of the people on this site use, or you can pick up a freeware program like Audacity. CoolEdit has many more features than Audacity but unless you buy it (about $250 bones) what you will be downloading is a demo version which will disable certain features after your 20 day trial. Next I picked up a relatively inexpensive Sony omnidirectional microphone and hooked it up to my soundcards mic in port. Then make sure that the microphone is the selected recording device for whatever recording software you're using and you're pretty much set. Just use the tutorial for CoolEdit or whatever software you're using to get started. If your guitar is an acoustic/electric you can plug the guitar directly into your soundcard at the line in port. You will need an adaptor for the one end of your guitar cord if you're going to record this way. I'm using a microphone because I had problems getting it to work by plugging the guitar in directly, and also I'm able to record guitar and vocals at the same time. That's the bare bones of it! Other guys on this site can get into more detail with you about equipment, mic placement etc.
Good Luck and hopefully I didn't confuse you!

you can get a 1/4 to 1/8 mono to mono reducer at radio shack for about $3, and then you can plug it directly into the computer...just watch your volume levels when you start recording and make sure that you check your volume on your guitar before recording.
