I found a tab for it a few hours ago and started plugging at it, figured I'd go ahead and record it and add some vocals. I've heard the John Mayer version before but I tried to do my own thing so I changed the arrangements slightly. I was singing in a little bit higher key trying to get that New Orleans Harry Connick Jr sound err something... LOL
I dunno, made it in an hour or so which probably means it's not all that good... but at least you can't say I never contributed something to this forum. Heh heh.

Thanks man, I appreciate the encouragement

I think I got a little wild on the ending because I was not sure how I wanted it to resolve. I've always been told it's better to hit the ending of a song with extra vocals, unfortunately it was too loud for my mic. The only other thing is on certain parts I pushed it in a different vocal direction because I don't want to do what John Mayer already did with it vocally. Just some quick decisions made that I'm sure on a more concentrated recording would have been different. Fun to test out though

Well I would say you got a good start. As far as the guitar goes you are playing the right chords but the rythym is off. Try listening to the track and playing along. Also, your voice has potential, but you went off key quite a bit. Work on vocal control and not as much on adding vocal runs to the end of a phrase. With a little practice you could get this sounding pretty good.
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.

Yeah I wasn't too sure of vocal direction, too be honest the whole cover song concept is new to me. I'm used to my own stuff, but if you wanna play shows you gotta know some cover stuff

Any ideas for songs that kind of fit my vocals?

I think this song fits your vocal sound, it's just that you need to work on your control. You'll maintian pitch for a while and then a series of notes will be off. Mabye you just need to practice the song more
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.

Yeah I will, I'll definitely rework the vocals sometime. Maybe simplify them a bit, was screwing around with the improv too much.

I dug the slower tempo. great job overall, good choice of song too. it seemed like it was unpolished but hey what can you expect in an hour.

rock on.

Ah thanks Buck

I don't feel quite as sucky now, heh heh. I was just excited that I learned the song that quick so I had to record it

If I'm not too lazy (not the biggest fan of doing covers but I'm trying to get into it) I'll try to do some smoother vocals sometime for it. Whenever I heard the Mayer version I always envisioned what I would want to do with it, slow down the tempo, a bit jazzy smoother vocals... But didn't deliver on it yet

Maybe once I get past the hour and a half mark with the song I'll be somewhere

Doh, I feel really lazy seeing some of the guys on here who put so much effort into their cover stuff. Maybe I'm a snob about cover songs, but I definitely know you need to have some for shows. A necessary evil so to speak. Can't cram all my original works up peoples... well you get the picture..
