Help me decide on a guitar
Now, Im not going to be getting this guitar until the summer probably but I know I either want a Martin DC16RGTE or a Taylor 310CELtd/410CE. They are both dreadnought acoustic electrics with a cutaway. The Martin has rosewood back and sides. The Taylor 310CELtd has a maple back and sides and the 410CE/410CELtd have Ovangkol/Imbuia back and sides. Ive only played the 310CELtd and I loved it, has anyone every played or own any of these, Im looking for suggestions. They are all in the same price range. They all have very small differences and Im wondering if I should worry about any of them like ebony fretboards on Taylors vs. the micarta fretboard on Martins and there are some other small details like that. Id like to go to a store where I could just play them all does anyone know of a playce in the OH/PA area with a big store that would have all these? Any suggestions on the guitars themselves.
Heres some links:
Martin: http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/cho ... =DC-16RGTE
Taylor310CE: http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/mo ... p?id=310ce
Taylor410CE: http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/mo ... p?id=410ce
p.s. remember these Taylor links are for the non limited models, the limited models have different side/back woods.
Go here to look at the 300 & 400 limiteds: http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/mo ... teds/2002/
Lemme know what you think, thanks.

rosewood is generally thought of as a premium tonewood, however, maple and imbuia are no slouches, and a good piece of either is easily better than a mediocre piece of rosewood, so just because the martin has the rosewood back doesn't mean that it's going to be better.
i personally would go with the imbuia back over the maple for the taylor's, as maple is a brighter wood, and taylor's don't need much extra help on being bright. having said that, let me also say that i have played NEITHER guitar, and am basing my opinion on what i know of the woods alone.
I'm a Taylor fan, so I'd go for the 410Ltd

i would personally take the martin, even though i generally prefer taylors, smiply because i prefer rosewood over maple
rosewood has great mid range with excellent highs and lows
maple is more concentrated toward highs
and i need my lows

Everybody always asks me how she's doing. Has she really lost her mind? I said "I couldn't tell you, I've lost mine."

Yeah, but on a dreadnaught that many times can produce too many lows, the maple back is wonderful. Gibson makes some WONDERFUL big bodied dreadnaughts that have maple backs.

I agree with cave cricket on this one, asking if you should buy a martin or a taylor is like talking relgion or politics, all your gonna get are opinions and nobody is gonna change their minds. Bottom line they are both sweet guitars play em both whichever one sounds better to YOU buy it.

Ive decided Im gonna get the Taylor, I dont know which one but Im gonna try the three of them out (310CELtd, 410CE, 410CELtd) and get whichever I like the most. The reason I decided to do this is because when I get a Martin I want it to be a real Martin, not some cheap one they try to make to compete with lower priced guitars. Im gonna get the Taylor now and get a Martin HD-35 when Im out of school and can afford it. What do you think about that, good idea or not? I think it makes sense.

Good call my friend. Save up and wait to get a top of the line Martin, not some 700 dollar low end wannbe, not that they sound bad by ANY means. Martin started making these lower end guitars not to long ago just so that they could compete with other compaines who cater to buyers like you.The reason I decided to do this is because when I get a Martin I want it to be a real Martin, not some cheap one they try to make to compete with lower priced guitars.
