Good Beginner Songs

Unread post by FloydD » Sun Jul 06, 2008 3:54 pm

Hey guys
i'm new to guitar, been playing for about a month, maybe less, and i'm looking for some ideas for a few songs i should learn. I'm open to trying any types of music (i only have an acoustic guitar) and i like classic rock, some of the more recent rock and obviously love dave (but i have a thread for his songs already)
so any ideas are welcome
also any tips on how to figure out strumming patterns, i try listening to the song but it's fucking hard, any ideas?
Thanks

A few tunes:
proudest monkey -dmb
another brick in the wall -floyd
all along the watchtower -dylan

For learning strum patterns, I like just laying your hand across the strings and strumming a rhythm. Work on going down first, then down and back and eventually you can add chords, and then later add multiple chords and work on transitions.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the boards.

I have been working on crash. It is not too tough, but has enough transition to challenge you and help with your timing.

Hurt by Johnny Cash is good too. Am, C, D chords. In that order.

I agree, Hurt is a very easy song: http://www.freeguitarjams.com/OnlineVid ... aspx?id=36
