Covering songs

some of my friends say that covering songs kinda disgraces them and i was wondeirng what yalls thoghts were on that

well, not exactly

you pretty much have to play other peoples' songs to get started, im not saying actually perform them, but yeah

and covers are fun to add your own little twist to them

Covering songs is a basic part of learning. Everyone does it. In most cases someone who doesn't learn other songs is gonna be a shitty songwriter themselves. Everything is a permutation of the 12-bar blues.
If you've been playing for years and all you do is covers and you suck than yeah I guess it's disgracful.
