I have an Acoustic Image Clarus head and Corus EX cab. Super clean tone, loud, fills a room due to it's speaker set up. I use a Boss Blues driver when I need any boost (sort of like a Scofield type crunch). I think I spent 1300, but it was well worth it.

Ok... I would say either Traynor, a used Vox, or maybe a Peavey Classic 30 or 50. You might be able to find something like a cheap Mesa, but that would be really lucky. I wouldn't recommend any of the Marshall's in that price range, honestly.

If you go used you can get alot of amp for <$1000. I picked up a Mesa F-50 for $500. I just peeked at the Austin Craigslist and there's a ton of shit under $1k. Some Mesa's, Sovtek Mig-60, Vox-AC30, Fender Twin Reverbs... all kinds of stuff.
