Problems Recording!!!!

Unread post by johnnyd » Sun Feb 08, 2004 2:35 pm

I'm having problems getting CoolEdit to record from my line in port on the laptop. I have my Takamine Acoustic/Electric plugged into a mono to mono adaptor. Then straight into the line in port. Is there some setting that I need to get it to recognize that there is something plugged into the line in? Or are you guys running through an amp first? I've followed the tutorial but I still can't get it to work. I'm running XP if that makes a difference.

Plug it into the Mic Input port instead :)

I have it in the mic in now. That's the only input on this laptop. Still doesn't work.

Is it selected as the recording device ? Check your soundcard properties :)

You mean in CoolEdit right? Conexant AMC Audio is the #1 device listed.
That's what is being shown in Device Manager as the main audio input driver. Weird :(

No you'll need to check your soundcard properties in windows as well , not only in CoolEdit :) If it isn't selected in windows then it won't work in any recording application :)

OK, when I go into recording properties it has that Conexant audio as the default recording device. Microphone is checked. I'll try unchecking it and see what happens.

Well, when I unchecked it Line In was enabled. I went back into Cooledit and still no luck. I wonder if it just isn't compatible with this sound card.

go to start menu, all programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control... once there click on the options menu and select properties. select the button for "adjust volume for....recording" make sure all volume controls are showing by checking all the boxes. then hit OK. select whichever input you are going to use, I use the Line In... Make sure the volume is all the way up and you're done!

Thanks for the help guys but I'm still having problems. I'm starting to wonder if the recording input device driver will only recognize a microphone. I'm going to borrow one tonight and give it a try.

Hey, just as an informational followup, once I plugged in a microphone it worked great. If anyone else has a problem like this try the mike. The driver for this is Contexant AMC Audio. It evidently will only recognize a microphone. The laptop is an HP.
