any advice for a clearer sound?

It helps if you hit the string closer to the saddle, like dave does. Don't mute with your right hand just hit the string a little to the right of the sound hole. That's always proved helpful to me.
I have a question. I have a guitar, jazz guitar(johnson, retail $599) and i have a lot of trouble getting decent harmonics out of it, i.e. granny, mainly fifth fret. Are harmonics something that comes from the strings or is my neck fucked up? Any advice? Thanks.
