take your finger off as soon as you hit the note. leaving your finger on will deaden the sound. and place your finger directly above the fret, not in between like you normally would.

Yeah, just remove your finger ASAP or you wont hear much.

It helps if you hit the string closer to the saddle, like dave does. Don't mute with your right hand just hit the string a little to the right of the sound hole. That's always proved helpful to me.

I have a question. I have a guitar, jazz guitar(johnson, retail $599) and i have a lot of trouble getting decent harmonics out of it, i.e. granny, mainly fifth fret. Are harmonics something that comes from the strings or is my neck fucked up? Any advice? Thanks.
