I've found *my* strings

Unread post by infoghost » Fri Jan 23, 2004 10:25 pm

That's right, after trying a slew of strings, I've finally found some I like on my D-15.

It's funny, I won't put anything but Ernie's on my electrics, but I never really considered them for my acoustic until now. I went to the store with the intention of trying out earthwoods, but they only had mediums. They had some slinkys, so I said why not. Time will of course tell, but so far, these have been my favorites. I really like that the low E & A strings are a gauge heavier than standard lights.

If it's one thing I've learned, it's that I do NOT like coated strings. I don't like how they sound, how they feel or how they tune. (too much play on the tuner, never seems to get right on easily). I can't pinpoint the sound issues, but it seems they have less punch, at least on my D-15.

Thanks to all those that offered suggestions

Well, nix those. They had the best sound when first put on, but after a week, they felt like they had been on for six weeks. Maybe I got an older pack, but they seem to corrode very quickly.

Back to the EXP's.

Maybe the batch I got had sat in the store for awhile. Being in paper wrappers, they certainly are not airtight.

really what it is is that i don't technically "put them on my guitar" i just spread the string packs on my floor and pretend i'm playing on a guitar with no strings on it...it's a pretty sweet deal, the strings never go dead or break

I haven't been able to find a decent set of strings so far. Everytime I put new ones on, they work decently, but then I try to tune to Raised B and SNAP.

I may just have to start using rubber bands.....

Are you just using normal strings ? Because that would be the reason :)

Yeah, you can't Raised B-Tune a guitar with the normal strings. It's been said before, but you buy a whole new pack of strings, and an extra B string... then open up the pack of strings, and throw out the Low E, you won't use it. Then put the A string where the Low E string should be, and put the D string where the A string should be, and so on. When you do that, the place to put the High E should be empty, pull out the other B string that you bought and put it there. Then you tune your guitar to Raised B Tuning. That will solve your problem then ;-)

Or buy single strings if your dealer does that :) Some dealers do

Ok, so I'm just supposed to buy this magical set of "different guaged" strings? I don't think so. I'm not falling for that trick, Stalin. Maybe that's how you do things over in Russia, but in my house I tune standard strings and not your commie version.

I found a shop that sells all Elixers for $9.99! Poly's, nano's, any gauge.

I'm not sure if I want to reveal my precious as of yet. My precious...
