garage band: only recording through right side of mic

any suggestions on how to solve this problem? I set it up to record both sides on garage band but it still is only picking up the right.

Try System Preferences -> Sound -> Input and check to see if the balance is correct

Also on the right side of garage band, when you select the track you are working with, there is a selection called "input source."

Make sure that is set properly.

EDIT: If you are just using one microphone on one track, make sure your input source is set to MONO, not stereo. That will record the same signal equally in the right and left ears.
