John Mayer - My Stupid Mouth
Okay I know this is a dave site, but I wanna learn how to play this tune......looking at the tabs on the web, and comparing it to what videos i've gotten off of kazaa, i don't think the web tabs are right.
Does anyone know the correct tabs for this song?

this is the best john mayer tab site. They're as close to 100% as you need/want. It's a fun song to play.

yes it certainly is, i'm planning on recording a cover of it either tonight or tomorrow night so i'll post it when it's finished. it's not too tricky of a song, if you guys have any trouble with it i suggest downloading a video of it from kazaa, it really helps.paywad927 wrote:im learning how to play this song too. the site gravedigger mentioned was where i got the tabs and they are very accurate. it really is a fun song to play and sing along too.

I am also trying to learn it. Really the only bad part is the "Oh another social casualty part" and it's only bad if you try to play the chords like Mayer does with the wraparound thumb bit. Otherwise it's pretty simple. That site is very accurate that's where I get my stuff from too. If you want to see him playing it there is a video on kazaa of him at a record store playin it. the date is 6-30-01. Hope that helps.

I think its easier with the thumb on the low E, but it takes practice to mute the A string with the thumb at the same time.paywad927 wrote:im tryin to learn "love soon" too. does anyone play the intro/verse like mayer does, with his thumb on the low e? i tried that and it didnt sound to good, then i tried with my fingers and it didnt sound too good. maybe its just me, but how do you guys play it, and which way to you think is easier?

yeah, the key to playing a lot of mayer is gigantic thumbs. oh finally my huge thumbs are coming in handy! there are a million times in mayer songs where you could get away with playing something without thumbs, but by playing with your thumb on the low e it allows you to make some key changes a lot easier.paywad927 wrote:thanx gravedigger, i practiced a little more with my thumb and its sounding better.

I can't believe he prefers to play this moveable chord with his thumb on low E: 7-x-7-7-5-x I mean HOLY SHIT! It's 23423 times easier to play it with your middle finger on the low E, the ring on the D, pinky on the G and the index on the B. my thumb can do crazy shit like that!madtadder wrote:yeah, the key to playing a lot of mayer is gigantic thumbs. oh finally my huge thumbs are coming in handy! there are a million times in mayer songs where you could get away with playing something without thumbs, but by playing with your thumb on the low e it allows you to make some key changes a lot easier.paywad927 wrote:thanx gravedigger, i practiced a little more with my thumb and its sounding better.

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.
