I dunno, I have had some gigs, but its hard to get them when you are solo. Some sort of Demo is always a nice thing for the person doing the booking. There are some places that are nearly impossible to get into unless you are a well established group or have played their before. I would try to open for another band in town, that will give you an "in" at that place, and later on you can headline a show. Also, some places have open mics on dead nights, if you blow them away at the open mic, you can get a gig that way.

as for places:
I ussauly play at coffeeshops and sometimes bars, but at bars you ussualy have to play a really long time(4 hours...I hate that). I have also played at a couple of weird places just once or twice. A good idea, if you know alot of other bands/soloist in town, is to put on your own concert. You rent out a Union hall, rent a PA, and sell tickets to get in. The profit is split between the bands. This worked really well in my little town, but then again theres nothing to do in my little town, and you do run alot of risk doing it this way as well.

I dunno there has to be some better ideas out here though, because I need some more gigs too!
