I love the Counting Crows. I think that Adams lyrics are more focused on love and lost love. Adam expresses himself in a meloncoly kind of way that just kind of catches your attention cause its a side that's always there but isn't discussed a lot. Adam Duritz, i think is a pretty depressed person. I was chronically addicted to the CC music a few years ago when I was totally depressed.....about women.
Dave on the other hand, he likes to keep it positive. Give you room to grow. Not to say that dave doesn't sing about depressing stuff, he just puts it out there in a different way.
I really love both artist' work.

For the people requesting the Crows best...it's like asking someone for DMB best. It's really hard to know where to begin because the Crows put all of their music on such a high level. There one of the precious few bands that actually composes an album for an album as opposed to a collection of songs. Like DMB, I can put a CC album in...any of them....and listen it it start from finish. August and Everything After was the very first CD I ever purchased and I still listen to it today - words alone cannot describe how great of an album it is.
Here are the singles:
Mr. Jones
Round Here
Angels of the Silence (awesome acoustic on Live across a wire)
Long December (live they pair this with Oasis's Live Forever)
Hagin' Around
Mrs. Potter's Lullaby
Einstein On The Beach (pirated & aired single, never released on album)
American Girls (Sheryl CROW on backup)
Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell cover, remixed with Vanessa Carlton)
Other musts:
A Murder Of One
Amy Hit The Atmosphere
Anna Begins
Catapult
Colorblind (from Cruel Intention's Soundtrack)
Goodnight Elisabeth
Hard Candy
Have You Seen Me Lately
Holiday In Spain
Mercury
Miami
Miller's Angels
Raining In Baltimore
Recovering the Satellites
St. Robinson In His Cadillac Dream
Sullivan Street
There's so many but these really standout. What a great great band....I think I'll make a mix before I hit the road!

Alright I cant say Im very familiar with the Counting Crows, but to me besides Dylan and a few others Dave is at the highest of songwriting levels. He sings about depressing things, and the song is happy, youd never know unless you thought about the lyrics. Dave connects with more people then anyone I know, I mean even IBYU which is a totally specific song to his sister, relates to so many people who have lost someone. Dave's music is more then music to me its more of a therapy, he moves me and I will never be able to repay him

I love the crows and I love Dave, but I personally think they are apples and oranges I think that they talk about different things in different ways which is what makes music really beautiful I personally dont care for it when people try to compare one artist to the other. If musicians where comparable, IMO, I think it would take the excitement and beauty out of it thats why I can say I am in the mood for some Dave or I am in the mood for JM or OAR or the doors or the crows. If musicians were able to be weighed against each other than we wouldnt have all of the different artist it would be some kind of monopoly you would have like 20 musicians out there one for each type of music. So I like to think of each artist as unique and I just choose to listen to some instead of others based on what kind of feelings they create inside me
that is all
that is all
people stare and we just ingnore them and they go away go away go away

I thought that IBYU was about a woman that dave would chase after and he asked her out on several occassions even proposed and she turned him down (haa women know everything?!?!) anywho I just thought I heard it was a song to this woman that no matter what he will always back her up.phatnev wrote: Dave connects with more people then anyone I know, I mean even IBYU which is a totally specific song to his sister, relates to so many people who have lost someone.
