Re: Official Latest Show Thread
Holy shit!
Just got back from Alpine Weekend. Killer fucking sets both nights. Motherfucking Spoon! And Stay or Leave tonight, out of nowhere! Ants set closer last night and Billies tonight? Classic DMB. The band had tons of energy tonight and Dave was in a really good mood. He was much more talkative than usual for a full band show. He told a few stories and made fun of the drunk people in the parking lot, staggering around on stage. I thought he was going to fall for real.
Nancies and Warehouse as the openers were very unexpected. The Stone and The Dreaming Tree are always awesome. Halloween is always a treat. The covers were fucking spot on. The Too Much fakes were cool, even though I knew they were going to do it. And tonight they faked it, went straight into LIOG and then straight back into Too Much. It was a nice surprise. A lot of the arrangements were new and fresh which was nice. Coffin adds a breath of fresh air to everything he's in on.
The Rhyme & Reason tonight with Jeff and Rashwan and Tim's solos/jams was one of the best versions I've ever heard. I'm pretty sure Dave forgot the lyrics to the 3rd verse, though. He stepped up and started singing "So here..." and stopped. He turned around for a few seconds then came back and started again and then stopped again. Then I think he went with that and did it a couple more times before going into a long jam. He finally came back and sang the right verse. Could have been intentional, but the first time he did he seemed thrown off a bit, so I suspect forgetfulness.
Anyway, both nights were just all around excellent. The only real let down for me was tonight's encore. We got Cornbread last night, and we KNEW Thank You was going to close it, which isn't necessarily bad in and of itself, just a bit of a let down after all the surprises. No complaints though. Two very solid shows this weekend.
Kind of a cool/crazy story from Saturday night. We went in a big group Saturday night but only my gf and I had seats. We ended up chilling in the lawn to start the night, but my friend Pat wanted to get up close. So he and I head to our seats. I stop to ask an usher where they are and turn and my buddy's gone. Then I hear that first Em of Spoon and almost lose my shit. Anyway, I turn and see Pat Walking down the stairs of the section we stopped at, so I followed him. Past usher after usher after usher until we finally end up all the way down on the floor about 15 feet from the stage, right in front of Jeff and Rashawn. And there we stood. I was floored. I'd never been so close to the stage before, and they mind-fucked me with Spoon on top of it. It was incredible luck.
So, all the way through Spoon and halfway into Eh Hee we're right up front like we belong there and no one notices. Until Pat pulls out his phone and starts taking pictures. I'm pretty sure we could have spent the whole show there if he hadn't gotten cute. So we got chased out of there, but only up a few steps. So we chilled there for a minute, until the lady turned and saw us. She chased us all the way to the top of the pavilion and down toward our section.
Long story short, Pat pulls his invisibility cloak out again only this time I can't find him. So I'm hung out at my seat for a couple more songs and head back to the lawn during Bayou, so the gf and another friend can go to the seats. Pat finally found us back on the lawn sometime during Crush.
He had been weaving in and out of the front sections dodging the same lady usher who knew he wasn't supposed to be there. Great fucking time, great fucking set. Spoon, for the love of god. And the best part of all? Where Are You Going? was nowhere to been found. Finally!
Sorry for the lengthy post, just very happy about such a great weekend.

Re: Official Latest Show Thread

So, I have no idea how I failed to mention the most incredible, goose-bump inducing part of the entire weekend. Exhaustion perhaps, or just giddiness; I don't know. Anyway, so after Thank You the band leaves the stage; but no one in the venue goes anywhere. We're all just clapping and singing "Thank you for lettin' me be myself... Again" for what felt like half an hour. I mean the crew has unloaded the entire stage and we are all just singing our fool heads off. The pavilion was full and everyone on the lawn stayed, too. It was so loud and it just didn't taper off for so long. Just incredible. I have never experienced anything like that before. I mean everyone stayed it seemed. I haven't grabbed the show yet, and I hope the tapers got it all, but it was just so fucking amazing.

Re: Official Latest Show Thread
Agreed 100% with all that littlefriend wrote, been to alpine a lot and both nights this year... amazing to say the least. The nancies opener the first night immediately got the crowd going, i'd say it was by a long shot the best show i've seen. It was also the most fun i've ever had at a show besides having to listen to sloppy drunk cub fans chanting "@%$# the brewers" in the restrooms. Night 2 was awesome as well. When littlefriend said dave was in a good mood, that is a big understatement. Never seen him take off his guitar and dance like he did at the end of the show, it was funny as hell. Glad he spiced it up with his dancing because the encore wasn't much to write home about. Overall it was a great time and just sad that it's over but thats life.
Little story from the parking lot...
After the show N2, there were 2 drunken cub fans (yes again) in the parking lot that were smashing bottles and yelling obscenities at all the brewers fans. It was really annoying, but then became hilarious when they tried to start their car and found that the battery was dead and they had to go around the lot and ask all of the brewer fans that they just cussed out for jumper cables...

We were all hoping that! But even when it was clear that they weren't coming back out it just kept going.bense27 wrote:i was hoping that would end with the band walking on stage one more time. but that is still pretty cool.

How quickly Halloween went from complete rarity to setlist staple. No complaints though. The sets have been pretty strong as of late.
