sledgehammer?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

D#min pentatonic... can't help you otherwise. You should be able to put the pieces together. Not super complicated...

I'm not trying to sound rude and if I do come across as such I apologize. I would seriously suggest you go back and start learning your theory now. There will come a time when you hit a wall and the only thing you can do to get over it is to learn theory. It's crucial in the creation process and forming your own style.

Yeah, you definitely need to learn your scales and chord structures. I'm 14 playing for two years self taught, theory is not that hard. Music (especially Dave's with all the weird chords) will make a lot more sense if you understand music at the absolute root of it. Plus it makes it easier to learn how to play different instruments.

i am not good at writing tabs but here is the gist of how i play it. i too could not find a good tab ANYWHERE and thus learned it by ear. again i've basically never "tabbed" anything before so i hope this all makes sense

verse

pinky on 8, middle finger on 6 and hold index on 4...basically just lift the middle as you play the rhythm. play along to the song to get it

"you could have a steam train...."
----------------------------
----------------------------
-------8------8------------
----------------------------
-------6------4------------
----------------------------

".......call me I'll be anything"
----------------------------
----------------------------
-------5-------------------
-------5--------------------
-------3-------------------
----------------------------
back to verse at "...........you need"

chorus "Sledgehammer!"
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
-------5------6-----------10------
-------5------6-----------10------
-------3------4------------8------

repeat verse and chorus

end jam
"I've kicked the habit..."

----------------------------
----------------------------
-------8------8------8------
-------8------8------8-----
-------6------6------6-----
--------------7------4------
----------------------------

it really is pretty easy and thus far i have found it to be a really great way to play it. i hope this helps everyone. i'll try to make a recording of how i play it in a couple days if everyone would like. best thing is to take the tab and play along to the song to get a good feel for everything, especially the verses. i have been playing this at shows solo and it has been getting a great response. hope it all makes sense and hope you enjoy!!!

RIP Roi...I know you will continue to speak to me day after day with your beautiful music!

by the way....all the stuff about theory is overrated...no disrespect for those trained in theory (cause i do believe if you know theory you are well educated in music). But i was a drummer for 11 years and never TOUCHED a guitar. i was self taught and learned SO MUCH MORE without lessons. to me the best way to learn is by discovery. i'm sure my opinion can be easily argued by those who are trained in theory but again i learned so much more by learning guitar tabs and just figuring things out on my own. Before I ever learned someone else's music i started writing my own. we all learn differently so maybe it was easier this way for me but i do think that theory is not necessarily the way to go all the time. check me out at http://www.myspace.com/kevinhoran to see if i'm any good : ) just noticed that my song "all and all" is messed up...working on that problem...but i hope you enjoy!
