hooking up acoustic to computer/live equipment

Do some research but it sounds like some sort of pickup/mic combo would work ok for what you are going for.

I have 0 experience with these but I think the little condenser would at least sound better than a piezo pickup when you are recording. You usually can blend the two sources for optimal tone.

Yeah LR Bags does some great pickups; if I ever had to go aftermarket thatd be the way to go. What kind of computer do you have? Someone may have already touched on it, but apples garage band is pretty impressive for home recording. I dont know if theres a windows version though. I've used a number of M-Audio mics, both their instrument mics and vocal. Always been rather pleased. What is your budget persay? You may wanna look into setting up a rig. The difference between an amp and a PA is this. an amp is largely just amplifying your guitar, maybe a mic too. A PA, has multiple speakers, and a mixing setup to have more control over your sound. Also you could have multiple people on the PA. So really you need to asses your live needs. If you're only gonna be doing solo shows, you should just look into a good amp with a mic input. If you wanna do solo, and small groups you should get a PA.

Ok I will remember LR Bags. I have a Dell, about 3 or 4 years old but it still runs everything I've thrown at it just fine. I realize the lack of garage band, but I have heard of alternatives before for windows so I'll have to look into that again... My budget is probably 300 and if that is too low to get me anywhere 500 max, i have one more year of college i have to account for so that's all I can do right now.

hmmm.. I would mostly be playing solo, but I could see perhaps getting someone with a bongo or another guitar player up there with me seeing as once my friends that jam with me hear i'm playing live solo at places, they will probably want to sit in too... In that sense, PA would probably be the best way to go cause then I can sort of have the catch-all equipment there.

yea I have a recording mic, not one that could be used live because it's just USB. Although I'll have to take a further look at it there might be some sort of output that you can plug it into a PA... If not I think i remember looking at mics in a guitar center catalog or something and they started at like 150 I think? That is just a guess actually but if the mic I have doesn't work out, I'm probably going to have to find a cheaper PA since I'll need to buy a mic.
