yeah it's cool, but hard - so i decided to take on DDTW as you said it was easy and i got most of it down, i just don't know what to play for "Now as I rest my feet by this fire..." is it the same as "this land is your land..." and when it says go directly into "all i can say" does he mean after that little part or are the tabs for "all i can say" in that part? do you get what i'm saying?

also i've been trying with the strumming pattern - i suck at them, i've got something that sounds a little like it but i know i'm not right, can you tell me the strumming pattern for the fill and the verse (i think there's just two strumming patterns right?)
thanks dude

Yes the "Now as I rest my feet by this fire..." is played with the same chords as "This land is you land"

And I didn't really get what you were trying to say about the "all I can say to you my neighbor" part, but directly after singing "upon these poor souls" you play the b5 chord then then G( the "all I can say part)

Code: Select all

B5
E:-------------------
B:-------------------
G:-4----------------
D:-4--------------
A:-2----------------
D:----------------
Sorry it's hard to word it so it makes sense, but listen to the song D&T and it's easy to figure out the chords and strumming patterns...

When he plays "Now as I rest my feet by the fire" i always detected a slight change in the chord... what sounds good to me, is instead of just playing the x577xx Chord... I play two chords lets call them chord 1 and 2
1 2
E:----------------------
B:----------------------
G:-7---------7---------
D:-5---------7---------
A:-5---------5---------
D:-0---------0---------

Code: Select all

           1 2 1 2
Now as I rest my feet by the fire, The hands once warmed here well I have retired them.
Its just changing the A to a G... and theory/chord buidling wise i dont know what that means but try it and see if it doesnt sound better to you

i give this advice to basically everyone who has asked me what's a good song to get started with. crash. seriously. i think that song helped me so much in the first month or so. it'll stretch your fingers, give you some stamina, give you some strength in your fingers, get you comfortable with strumming...and it's not THAT hard.

i agree on all counts, and if you focus on picking the bass notes of each chord clearly it gives your picking a bit of practice

Sounds good, i learned don't drink the water but the strumming is a little weird i think still. But i'll give Crash a go, i do find it's quite a stretch so maybe that's good.
Thanks for all your help guys.

first song that i learned by dave was #41, which is pretty and simple. the newer stuff is fun, but the older your picks of dave songs, the better they are in my opinion. if i had to suggest starter songs, they'd be "41", "halloween", and "i'll back you up", and maybe "where are you going". if you haven't heard i'll back you up, you need to get it, it's daves best sweet song i think. those three plus the obvious ones like proudest monkey, typical situation. my favorite to play right now is So Right in standard tuning, for some reason it took me forever to figure out, but once i got it i couldn't stop playing it. if you ever feel stuck with dave songs, you should play some of his covers that are relatively simple, like all along the watchtower, ain't it funny how time slips away, and in my life. play what songs get you going though, whatever songs get to you, that's what you should play. that's my opinion anyways~
