So I just got back from an incredible weekend at Rothbury (going to create a thread w/ reviews on the bands i saw in that thread in nDMB) and of course DMB was going to be a highlight of my weekend. So I woke up Saturday, packed a backpack with food and drink and planned on getting to the front of the stage and staying there pretty much all day so we could have good standing position for Dave. Well after standing through State Radio, Citizen Cope, Michael Franti and Spearhead from about 50 or 60 yards away, we made our push during Franti and ended up what would probably have been the 8th or 9th row if there were seats, completely dead center stage. I was extremely excited.
Franti is ending his set and a bunch of random people come on the stage and start dancing, and then all of a sudden Dave comes out of nowhere and starts dancing around for about a minute then disappears back stage. The crowd goes so nuts my eardrums were rumbling.
We wait there for about another hour and finally DMB comes on, people are just crammed against me, I only have room to move my head around. My cousin who is 6'5 turned around and took a picture of the place, and the entire thing was so full people were even standing inside the porta-potty area just to be able to fit into this place.
Highlights (in my mind)
Seek Up -- Totally solid, great song obviously and couldn't have been happier with the opener
Eh Hee -- Timmy was ripping the shit out of it, and I really like this song a whole lot more with the full band. This performance of it was full of T3h ENERGIEZ!! and a lot of fun
Grey Street -- Love the song, and it finally hits me that I'm this close to my favorite band and I'm actually here and everything and I actually started to cry during the second chorus I was so freakin' happy. I've never been front row for any band that I've liked ever and here I was. Amazing
Rhyme and Reason -- solid, Timmy again did some magic
Proudest Monkey -- Holy shit! When is the last time they played this? Totally chill, I was just looking around at all the pot smoke floating around
So Damn Lucky -- The end jam was awesome, was basically dave singing "amazing what a minute can do" every once and awhile while the guys were just playing the shit out of the song... this song is incredible full band IMO
#41 -- Coffin is a beast
You Might Die Trying -- Incredible energy, I love what this song has turned into since the first few times it was played live
Sledgehammer -- hadn't heard it live, was sweet
Jimi Thing -- Timmy is a beast
Thank You -- great crowd pleaser, and at the very end dave puts down his guitar, everyone stops playing except i believe carter was just playing a single drum, and dave is dancing around the stage is a totally flamboyant way but it was hilarious and a lot of fun. A wonderful way to end an incredible show.

Rothbury was a lot of fun. The set was pretty strong for the most part, and we were about 10 or 12 rows back from the rail. I think we got there around 5.... couldn't get any closer after that.

Re: Official Latest Show Thread
ohhh rothbury...
it was so great being up front for dave and all of his dancing, ive never seen him get so into it. DMB + mdma is a great combination. I showed up about 5 minutes before the show and it was fucking packed, but somehow the drugs got me all the way up front before the first song. Seek up get me so pumped, grey street made me dance and have a nice moment in my head. the some devil songs were great (especially SDL w timmy), and there wasnt a song i didnt want to hear cuz timmy made everything feel new (even satellite felt fresh). Billies was amazing, that was my favorite song when i was a kid. Ive never hear bayou live and wasnt hoping for it, but it ended up being a big party song (and being from new orleans it felt right)
The encore (Thank You) was just perfect. So many people singing along, at the height of their happiness, you couldnt even see where the crowd ends. Everyone got into it, especially when dave went back to his dancing up and down stage. All show he was doing his jig and jamming, but at some point during jimmy thing he really started to foot work. That bled into the best encore performance i could have hoped for (and it wasnt even a dmb song).
all in all, the band delivered big time. w/ out leroi a few sax parts were lacking, but coffin's uniquness really made for some new jams and crazy shit. I missed the keys as well, but with timmy on stage, my head was full of good tunes
I wasnt expecting much from this show and it ended up being my best Dave Matthews show, ever

Just listened to the 7-7-2008 Bartender, I'll put it up in the Gen. DMB board, really incredible version. I hope jeff keeps up this energy throughout the show.
